Long wait but its finally here! New Glass Impressions - Tokina 11-16 f2.8
For those that have been following this glass, ever since it came out, it has been a huge hit. Ken Rockwell says "This Tokina 11-16mm is the world's fastest and sharpest ultrawide lens...".
Its pretty much out of stock everywhere and the only way to get your hands on one is to either order online and wait, or buy a imported version from Ebay for a hefty markup. Samys Camera had ordered 31 of these and they have been waiting for months. Luckily i got a call yesterday that 1 out of the 31 they ordered came in and i immediately went to pick it up. First Impressions, the build quality is great. Feels very solid just like my L series lenses. Im growing to love the route Tokina took for changing from Auto Focus to Manual. You basically pull the focus ring towards you to go to manual focus instead of having to flip a switch like most Canon lenses. Compared to the Canon 10-22, you really wont notice a huge difference when shooting fully wide. 1mm really isint THAT big of a deal. The 11-16 also offers a 2.8 f stop which makes shooting in low light conditions that much easier. The only complaint i do have is that when shooting at 11mm f/2.8, the vignetting gets kinda overbearing. Overall, i'm having a blast with this lens. For $100+ cheaper then the Canon 10-22, this is definitely something to consider when you're looking for a Super Wide Angle lens. |

Took this lens out to a GTG this Saturday, you guys can check out a few more photos with this lens. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=176315.
I wouldnt say he's a sell out, but i do agree that there are FAR better places to read up / get info on lenses then Ken Rockwell. It was just a example i used, if you go read the reviews from any other photography sites, they all say this is one of the best super wide angles for the crop bodies. |
