How does the car compare to what you had hoped for?
Now that the cars are here, how do they compare to what you had hoped? My hopes were:
- Better steering - Better suspension tuning: more compliant w/o handling tradeoff - Lighter (125 lbs) - No increase is dimensions Will have to wait and see on steering and suspension tuning (Read some pretty positive feedback in this months C&D). Now know car is heavier. I get car has more power to offset but I'm more interested in weight reduction (car dynamics) versus more power. More interested in a more engaging car versus a more powerful car. Now know car is larger - 5 additional inches seems like a lot. F80 is not small to begin with. I guess it's best to wait till reviewers drive the car, some companies including BMW have managed to make heavy pigs engaging to drive.

skipping hood and grill, similar in weight and dimension, more aggressive look outside (which they did just not in the right direction for me) 500+hp, put 0-60 in the mid-low 3s. A better sound from that I6TT. Interior is better than I could imagine to be honest. narrow that wheel gap and lower center of gravity, the f82 zcp i have is still a bit soft. can't comment on how it drives yet.
interior is actually better than i expected. very impressed to be honest, just need some more color combinations.

I really can't tell at all yet --- all my hopes were centered around driver engagement and how it handles on a track. Still zero credible information about any of these.
But the apparent formula of extra weight, more power, AWD, ZF8 and marketing to the 'fast&furious' crowd doesn't bode well. I can maybe get over the looks - but this car needs to differentiate itself from an RS5 or AMG C63S by the way it handles. If it doesn't then I would take the Audi. Or wait and see what they do to the M2. And if I can convince my significant other that we only need 2 seats then I'm out of here! Last edited by pbar; 09-24-2020 at 10:49 PM.. |

- The technology looks to be as good or better than I expected.
- I'm not terribly enamored of any of the standard colors or interior options. - The car is longer than I expected/hoped. Weight as listed is a concern as well. - Not terribly fond of the stock wheel/tire sizing and the front wheel gap--looks worse with solid colors on the car than in the camo spy pics. - All of the options I care about seem to still be offered per the EU/AU configurators. - Had planned to add M Performance Exhaust; definitely passing on that after the reveal due to the design and the rear diffuser. Enough concerns to give me pause on immediate purchase reservation. With the unknowns will wait to drive it myself and hear from credible sources on the driving dynamics before ordering next year. |

- I was hoping for Alcantara roofliner (cmon BMW, at least give us a fake Alcantara... that roofliner is disgusting and ruins the whole interior!) - I was hoping for San Marino Blue or at least Marina Bay Blue - I am a bit nervous about the weight but I will save my thoughts until I can drive this thing on a track! - Also a bit worried about the steering... really looking forward to testing it in sport plus and I truly hope it will be super fast and sensitive with at least some feedback! - Was hoping they figure out the radar cruise control with a manual but who am I kidding... |

From a performance standpoint, I was hoping for:
DCT, much less weight increase (worst case < 100 lbs heavier than F8x), bigger brakes (front and back), adjustable camber, smaller wheel options, non-digital instrument cluster, alcantara options, manually adjustable carbon buckets. Got none of these.

I hate that I'm actually strongly considering Sao Paulo Yellow with Yas Marina Blue/Yellow carbon seats on an M4.
Surprisingly, my wife has given me a major thumbs up on the color combo. Coming from Steel Gray, Interlagos Blue, and a few Alpine White M3, I'd like a standout color this go around. She says since it's a very aggressive design that it would best pair with an outrageous color. She picked Tanzanite Blue II for her X7 M50i so I trust her taste, lol. |

I had hoped it would weigh less, and that the MT would have been available with full HP.
I'm hoping that steering feel is improved. I like how the exterior and interior turned out, but I wish BMW would offer selectable digital gauges and one of them was a central, circular tach - I don't understand BMW's current infatuation with trapezoids. |

We’ll see when the AWD performance numbers are out and after proper seat time but so far it’s met my expectations which were an overall significantly different looking and feeling car with better performance.
Weight missed the mark though if the EU weight increase of the RWD models is what we’ll see in the US. |

Hopefully this is the explanation to the difference in reported EU and US weight increase vs F8X. That BMW has found a way to inflate weight by using more options etc. at weigh in.

M3 i use for daily driver fun car drift king. For track I have GT3. M3 as track car hasn't been a great choice since E92 imo. E92 still has a lot of issues to make it reliably fast on track.
