Why didn't we get a G82 M4 concept car?
It's just dawned on me that we did not get an M4 concept car prior to official launch, a tradition since the E46 M3 days!
Always seemingly final vehicles with subtle details that never made it to production. I know there was a 4 Series concept shown at the 2019 Frankfurt car show but so was the F32 a few years before. Below is a small reminder. E46 M3 E46 M3 CSL E92 M3 E92 M3 GTS E90 M3 GTS that became the CRT F82 M4 F82 M4 GTS

You mean BMW didn't tease us enough with the 4 series concept, all of the ring testing, prototype drives, Instagram teasers. We needed more? Not sure we could have handled more!

10 years from now when BMW gets over the big grill thing a return to form will be welcome...but it won't look anything like the F80. My guess it that BMW takes the electrification of the M5 as an opportunity to do something equally as controversial. The stealth power sedan is clearly the 550 now. The G80/G82 is a necessary evil (I use that word lightly). |

E46 days were practically pre internet, magazines were popular but real concepts touring around shows were big.
With social media now not really needed. |

They would have nowhere to exhibit a Concept M4 due to COVID. They might think it would be weird to show case a concept car via press release and some photos distributed to the press.

Bmw has changed their marketing strategy for releases since the F82 concept... now they tease with prototype drives in camo, if you look back at the last few M and series launches the preprod cars get a press drive and camp photo shoot

I mean the slow reveal and removal of camo making it fairly easy to render is basically the same thing these days. The "final" renders from camo versus the reveal are usually about as different as the production models are to the concept.
