Remote Updates

This may be a stupid question but can BMW carry out a Remote Update as when I started the car yesterday I found that some of the stuff I had set like some Radio Stations, Sat Nav Destinations Disappeared but not all, and some things on Connected like Weather had been changed to News, Map to Arrow view was changed also and , little things like this but bloody annoying, if no remote can be done what do the panel think is happening/happened

I too have experienced this. I was going to enquire at my 1st service next month about why this is happening. So whilst I can't answer your question, I can confirm it has also happened to me. I only ever use one of my keys so I know I'm not inadvertently swapping profiles.

Same here, only one key in use since I bought the vehicle, I have an appointment at my local dealer (if it's still valid) as the dealer is in a Lockdown area and I am not, I'm going to call them later but not for this issue I will raise it with them if I get there. The reason I have an appointment is for my Add Blue issue. see my thread for the details, dealer says it is normal but I disagree as if the AddBlue read out is faulty dealer says the warning lights will appear when system needs topping up, my argument is if the system is faulty there is no guarantee that the warning lights will appear.

You're welcome - I hope you get to the bottom of both issues, whilst adblue isn't a problem for me being petrol, I will be interested in the outcome of the other.

I've had similar happen but it all came back after while. In my case it was the apps being refreshed, once this was complete the presets etc all came back. You can also update apps somewhere in Drive such that it's not simply down to when the Drive wants to do it.

I haven't received an update yet but when I got my MY2020 car last week (new) the customer delivery rep told me the updates to idrive and maps come OTA and that I should expect one soon.

I'm not sure what version I'm on or what's coming (new to bmw) but he said some things would be grouped together in the menus.

He said he didn't think I would lose my settings but I'm not convinced until I see it.

This is a seemingly endless area of confusion, mostly caused by BMW and exacerbated by dealers.

There's been plenty of inference and outright statement by BMW that iDrive updates are done OTA for iDrive7 G01s and G02s. That is incorrect. Nav maps updates are done OTA. Connected app updates are done OTA. But iDrive software updates still must be done by dealer service departments for our cars.

Most iDrive7 vehicles have full OTA capabilities but we have a limited iDrive7 implementation that does not. I think many dealers think iDrive7 = OTA everything. And BMW generically advertises iDrive7 that way. So it's a mess of confusion.

Next year's LCI may include a full iDrive7 implementation, but that won't help us.

Agreed. I had to bring my 2020 in for Nov 2019 and July 2020 updates.

It is entirely possible BMW will enable remote updates via another update. I don't see any reason from a hardware point of view that I cannot happen. Same with Remote Start.

How do you actually check the SW version? I've searched a few threads and some people just say check your map version or say that if you just got an update, it'll be the latest one.

I can do it from your VIN if you PM me. I'm not sure how to find it in BMW OS 7, only idrive 6 from inside the car !
