American average app subscriptions is $21 - Have you ever calculated?

The average American pays $20.78 a month in app subscription fees. This had me thinking for the first time of what my month app subscriptions totals are...

Hulu - 61
Adobe Creative Suite - 21
Apple Music - 10
Spotify - 10

$102...a little above the average. What totals and services do y'all partake in?

I don't even want to know and I'm getting pretty tired of everything being a subscription. Just recently had to subscribe to Quicken because the fuckers bricked my version of Quicken 2017 by purposely disabling the ability to download your account data. Now I have to be subscribed to this shit software of which I used probably 1% of the features and was perfectly happy with my 2017 version... hell they made me upgrade to that one from some older version which also worked just fine.

Companies love the subscription model so they can have a constant revenue stream. If you want to get away from Quicken, check out Moneydance. I have been using it for years because they support Linux in addition to Mac and Windows, and have been pretty happy with it. Their developer isn't using a subscription license, at least not yet anyway.

I use it for my business, unfortunately a lot of the other options don't do business. Plus I need to be able to get all my data to the new system... just haven't felt like dealing with it... and I'm guessing Quicken knows most users won't want to deal with the hassle and just pay up.

I think we are paying 9.99/month for some iCloud upgrade because my wife holds down the picture button, and never goes back and selects just one of the 74 images she took of whatever her subject matter was. I pay 30/yr for Runkeeper Pro.

The rest are shared from other family members. Beast - BIL; Prime - sons; HBO/Max - niece

agree with the statements on companies loving subscriptions. Gyms are another great example of this, I would bet 70% of the gyms revenue come from people who dont show up and pay either bc they are too lazy and dont want to and will go one day or have no clue they are still paying the minimal amount a month.

I think the only monthly subscription I have is amazon prime. Everything else I bum passwords off family members lol

For sure gyms make a killing of absent members, great example! That reminds me to cancel mine since I only joined for the sauna and the sauna's been closed since April.

The big one I have is Amazon Prime and Apple iCloud. I try to steer away and bum some accounts like Netflix from friends/family.

Prime
Netflix
Redtube....I mean YouTube Red....or do I?
Pandora (both of these are to vanquish ads while working out)

Non-app subscriptions-
the car wash ($30/month - get one wash a day with the works)
the gym - agreed with the gyms making bank on non-showers. Was talking to the gym manager just the other night about this. Rant warning! The infringement of freedom that came with face masks (read as chin diapers to the vast majority of the American public) caused an uproar in people who's "rights" were forsaken which caused gym members to stop coming, yet they still pay. It's a win all the way around. It gives the excuse-makers a reason to not do something, it keeps the gym open and empty for me and it gives me more people to make fun of.

Gyms are the worst, however I think it's the industry that is full of shady fuckers. My gym closed down at the start of this shit but had the cojones to keep billing everyone even though the gym was closed. Apparently they kept billing people unless you contacted them to stop or in my case used a temp credit card and canceled it. Now they keep calling me every other day claiming I owe them so much money, but don't worry if I signup again they will wipe all my debt. Yeah, they can suck on deeznuts!!!

I do the same with the video stuff because there are sooo many. I only pay for prime and get Hulu "free" through my gfs sprint plan. Netflix, Disney and something else I can't remember I get from my friend, he gets Hulu from me. If it wasn't for that I would probably only keep Netflix and Prime. Might signup for the other when something decent comes out then cancel because it's mostly crap.

Adobe lets you choose particular applications now, unlike their initial launch. I only opted for Premiere and Photoshop. I am not a student.

$0.99 a month for iCloud
$9.99 for Spotify shared across extended family members

Not a subscription per se, but do you guys know anyone who hardcore plays ‘freemium’ games on their phone? I used to play this Star Wars game and joined a guild where the top players spent $10k+ (no, not a typo) on the game every year
