Cruise control "set"
Feeling stupid, but here goes. I have a new 550 with Driving assistant professional. I'm still making friends with the cruise control...more specifically the simpler mode (left symbol). I can't figure out what the set button is doing. When I turn it on, the act of hitting one button sets the speed to current...no set button. If I then hit the set button, the car then does not hold speed? Also, what does it mean when you see the word set in the hud. I keep thinking this mode should work like previous active cruise controls, but it does not. Help!

What MY do you have? You also have Automatic Cruise Control or just the standard Cruise Control?
BMW varied this up a fair bit over the model years. |

Watched the video...my car does not have the three modes mentioned at the end of video, but switches look like last one. In experimenting, it seems that once turned on with single push of center, lower button, the set button then changes speed to car perceived speed limit. Also found that "inc/dec" speed toggle changes speed by 1 mph, or, not 5 mph, but to the next speed, up or down, that ends in 0 or 5. Hope my explanation sounded rational. I guess my understanding of what the set button does just needs an update....different from our other two BMWs. |

Have you got speed limit assist on?
On my 2017 model if you enable that in idrive, it has the same behaviour. The current speed limit is displayed with a green circle around it to signify that. That is not default at least on mine and I don't use it. Might worth rummaging through the idrive if there is such a setting and turn it off. |

Good point. We all tend to obsess about what bothers us. I just got my car back after two weeks in the body shop and had a rental Mustang convertible. The main value of the Mustang was to remind me how much I love and missed my BMW.
