Is it safe using heat to remove coolant hose?

I’m trying to remove my radiator and can’t remove the lower coolant hose. I’ve been trying for about an hour. Maybe haven’t apply enough force, but I’m doing it VERY carefully because its the original one (06 330i). So I’m thinking on two options:
- use some lubricant
- use a heat gun

Is there any problem using one of those methods?

Any response is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Yes. Use a heat gun. I’ve done this a few times now and it worked perfectly. Can’t remember the temp I used but needless to say just be reasonable.

I wouldn’t bother with the lube. You just risk introducing contamination into the system, and heat alone should be enough.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I will try with a heat gun then.

Rubber doesn't expand with heat but it gets softer. Is that how this will work? I assume the o ring sticks?

You're trying to save a 14 year old rubber hose?

It’s much more likely he’s trying to avoid cracking the radiator side...

Ahh, yes, that makes much more sense.

I agree it's not worth saving, they are dirt cheap. Just use a razor cutting lengthwise where it connects to the radiator.

I ended up disconnecting the hose from the thermostat’s side, and removing radiator with the hose still plugged in. Once radiator was out and with the help of the heat gun, it was easy to remove the hose. At the end, I saved the hose and radiator and JB welded the leak.
Of course, I will soon replace radiator and also would like to replace all the cooling system hoses as well.

Nice!

I totally forgot to mention that removing the rad makes this wayyyy easier. Glad you ended up doing that.
