F56 Mini Bluetooth Audio
A family member of mine has bought a 2016 Mini Cooper with the standard audio system. One option it's missing is Bluetooth audio.
Does anyone know what's involved in retrofitting this? Is it just a coding option? |

Sorry should of mentioned the car already had factory fit Bluetooth for hands free phone, just no Bluetooth audio option.
So hardware is already there for hands free. |

Code S6NEA
Bluetooth Audio Streaming. Needs to be enabled. Cost of coding varies depending on where you go/who you know. On the E90 UK board there is a list of UK coders. Not sure if it's up to date. Or there are companies for example: http://bmwspecialistreading.co.uk/mini-f56-coding/ This one makes no mention of the price. See here: https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=15644595 |

I few threads I've read says you need to the upgraded visual boost head unit for you to code Bluetooth audio. |

Apparently so from what I can see online. The visual boost unit is for the pre-LCI versions and it's an expensive way to upgrade not to mention difficult.
I'd make a back up of all coding or note down any codes before you attempt the coding. The worst case is BT audio doesn't work. Reading up online the car already has everything needed and things need to be activated (coded). Check your VIN to see if BT Audio is possible and report back: https://www.mini.com/en_MS/home/mini-connectivity.html |

I've lost all the pages. It was on a mini forum or bimmerfest. Silly me. Usually quote the source.
Where was I? If you have the combox which there should be then this can be coded. If not then an upgraded one can be installed. Scan and see what options you have on the car. Try a different VIN decoder as well. |

Unlike E9x models where the combox was a seperate unit and therefore had its own option code. The newer BMW/Mini's have the combox built into the HU. So how do I determine if the HU has combox? |

I think if you can make calls via BT, interface an iPhone or plug in a USB you have a combox.
It looks like this: https://www.outmotoring.com/combox-media.html An upgraded one can be retrofitted: https://www.bimmer-tech.net/category...ombox-retrofit Similar to to the E9X the pre-LCI had ancillary devices to handle the BT. The LCI HU has BT built in. I'd may be call up a company like the one mentioned earlier above. Give them the VIN and ask if they could code it. Then code it yourself. |

I dont think that is correct.
From what I have seen most BMW's and Mini's from 2014 onwards do not have seperate combox modules, they are built into the HU. |
