Strut rubber boot replacement

Hey guys.

Any way to replace the rubber boot around the strut without taking the whole strut down??

Are you asking if you can disassemble the strut and replace the boot in place? I suppose you COULD try to remove the top mount with the strut still attached to the knuckle, but you'll still have to drop the whole thing down far enough to get access to it. At which point you've pretty much done all the work needed to pull the whole thing out.

I feel like its one of those "shortcuts" that ends up taking longer than just doing it the right way. You'll have a much easier time compressing the springs, and getting access to everything, with the strut removed.

Check out this awesome video from forum member FaRKle! on how to disassemble and replace the struts:

Don't know how many miles you have on your car, but it might be time to replace the dampers anyway, which means you might as well upgrade your suspension while you're at it

Yup this. On RWD and xDrive you can unbolt the strut from the top mount, let it lower away, and then unbolt the top mount from the shock tower. That'll let you pull the dust boot off and out through the top (probably have to go through the shock tower hole).

You'll still need to undo the end link on the strut to do this.

Thank you sir for the advice. And thank you for the great video. I might just go ahead and buy all new struts, as they are originals and the car is a 2014. We'll see.
