question about interior lighting.. is this weird?

Hey,, I just have a question about interior lighting in our 2006 330i. The center ceiling light goes off after I turned off the car when I popped the key out.. and other times the light does not go off after I take the key out BUT it does go off after I opened the door. why is it not consistant?

I haven't had cause to fiddle with my lighting settings except for the occassional individual light.

Perhaps the main switch is not set in the correct position or if you have idrive, maybe there is a setting adjustment.

Then again....

I set my idrive pretty much at delivery and don't have cause to adjust anything so I am not sure what to suggest.

I hope you sort out your problem.

Sounds like you have a short. Whether you have the front center light on or off when you turn the engine off and eject the key, the light should come on and stay illuminated until you either lock the vehicle or wait a short while and all the interior lights fade off.

If your vehicle is acting otherwise, there is decent chance that you have a short as this is not normal behavior. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I noticed this inconsistency too in mine.
It's just one of those electrical gremlins that we have to put up with in a BMW.

The other inconsistency is that sometimes the climate control setting is at recirculate at start-up, despite me having shut off the engine at my usual setting of auto-recirc. I'm sure I don't hit the recirc button on the steering wheel by accident. And yes, I use the same key, so no possibility of having a different key memory setting.
