BMW beware, Merc is coming (finally)

It looks like Mercedes-Benz is finally taking the fight to BMW against the E92. The next CLK (or E class Coupe as it seems it's going to be called) is going to be released next year. By looking at the pictures below, this looks like something that might get some of us looking into MB showrooms.

These are the engines that are going to be available:

• E200k, 184bhp
• E280, 231bhp
• E350, 300bhp
• E450, 354bhp
• E550, 428bhp
• E63 AMG, 481bhp (with future Black Series tipped for 525bhp)
• E250 CDI, 201bhp
• E320 CDI, 252bhp

What do you think? I don't know about you, but IMO this thing looks AWESOME

Here are the pics:

i think this is the ugliest car i have ever seen. i hate the separated front lights and would throw up on the rear wheel arches. i love the rims though.

I like the MB design. It's a little edgier than the prevs gen coupe (really just bringing the coupe inline with their new C-class (sedan).

What I've found most surprising is that the new MB C-class is priced under the 3 series, and I wonder if the coupe will be as well. The 3-ers were cheaper than the C-class during the E46 yrs.

I don't think they're going to offer so many of those engine variations...

my theory... we may or may not get one diesel.. but other than that, we'll get the 350 and 550 for sure, and maybe the 200k / 280

EDIT: car isn't bad at all,... i would consider it given the specs

For sure the US will only get just a few of those engines. All of them will be available in Europe.

FWIW, I like the look of the E-class. But I seriously, seriously doubt a 300HP E350 is going to drive anything like a 300HP 335i.

If its a CLK it doesnt really compete with the 3 series. The CLK was always at a higher price point it kind of sits between the 3 and the 6 in a class that BMW doesnt really offer.

Now the 3 coupe has gone a little up market lately so it does begin to touch the CLK slightly but a Base (low end of the CLK line) CLK350 with no options already starts at $48k compared to a base 335 (top end of the 3 not including M) starts at $42k.

Unless they decide to go down market a little with the CLK its still kind of in its own class.

As for the E that is a 5 series problem.

I own an E90, so I have no right to say any other car is ugly... But that one is not at all easy on the eyes. The A5 styling is much better than the Merc and I would consider the Audi over it any day. Of course, both of those marques are far behind BMW.... Generally, bimmers have a better feel and balance about them. Merc has been putting out cars with great HP figures for a while now... That's nothing new... The question is, can they make a car that can "perform" with that power in anything but a straight line?

I give them a B- for effort, but it's not that great looking. Too many hard angles on this one. Are they trying to compete with cadillac for that stealth fighter look? As usual you have to go way up the price scale to get a half decent powertrain option.

Profile reminds me of the current Accord coupe. Lights, both front and rear, from Lexus. Would have to see it in person to make a definite opinion.

I think it looks really clean. Although the back is very similar to a Lexus.

It's a rendering people. Seriously.

Oh, and are they gonna really make the 550 with 428bhp? I thought the horsepower war was over?

That's quite possibly the ugliest car I've ever seen. Mercedes (in general) suck. Thread fail.
