Is this limp mode??

I have an 08 335i (04/08 production) with the dinan stage 2 flash(dme 81). Car was flashed about 6 weeks ago. Before I flashed the car I had the fuel pump changed after the car went totally dead at 80 MPH on the HWY. Car had 300 miles on it. A few days after I had gotten the new pump put in, it died again. Both times I had about 2 gallons of gas left in the tank. Another common factor of both failures was the car could not start, it basically ran out of gas with 2 gallons left both times. Since I did not want to part my brand new car again I made sure not to run the tank to low and did not experience any more problems until.....

About 2 weeks ago I was driving on the Tri-Boro bridge into NYC, I was going about 60 MPH in 4th gear with about 49 miles on my gas range (below 1/4 tank) when I hit the gas to accelerate and change lanes. When I got on the gas there was no response, I did not lose any speed or stall out but I could not gain speed either. I got pretty nervous because I had about 2 miles until I could get to a shoulder. I was able to make it off the bridge and I began testing. When I would dump the clutch I was able to rev the car freely, 1st gear was considerably slower than normal, 2nd gear would take about 10 seconds to rev out, 3rd the same. this was very strange behavior for a very fast accelerating car. Called the SA and he said it could be bad gas. I went and filled up, no change. Parked car for about an hour and it was back to normal. When I had the fuel pump problems in the past I had about 2 gallons of gas left both times. Is this limp mode? Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It is not traditional limp as you should get warning lights. However, that is not right and I suspect, soemthing is not being triggered in the Dinan software that should.

That, or you vehicle came close to light speed and time slowed for you. Or perhaps you were towing something and forgot about it.

Seriously, keep tabs on it and when it occurs again, try and get to the dealer right then and show them.

THX. I would have brought it to my local dealer but cant for that type of issue because of the flash. The dinan dealer I used was 50 miles away at the time and once it started working properly again I just went about my business.

It actually happened twice. Both times I parked the car once I reached my destination, and when I started it an hour or so later it was fine. Both times low on fuel. really strange

Sorry if I was unclear. Car had 300 miles on it when the fuel pump was replaced. It was flashed with 5500 miles and it now has 7000.

Definetly call up Dinan HQ and not your dealership. Explain to them what is happening and they should take care of you.

Troubleshooting limps gets tricky when dealing with ECU reflashes because the diagnostic checks themselves (what causes the engine light to come on) could have been reprogrammed.
