Blew Up On The Track Tonight!

So got my short shift kit installed today... hit up the track....

first run - no traction whatsoever, car didnt feel good, jumped when tires spun - slid pretty much all the way down the track with no traction... did like an 18

second run - a little better, launch was horrible, spun out of control, but then regained traction... 60' time was like 4 seconds lol... did a 16

third run

pull up.. stage... launch at 1800rpm (it was 30 degrees).... tires spun horribly... 1/4 of the way down the track i hit the gas and - nothing.... oil blew out of the car... everytime i accelerated it felt like something was dragging on the ground or grinding... had to be towed off the track

so I dont know what the FUCK happened!!! maybe the person who installed my ssk/cdv left something fucked up??

well anyway the tow truck driver told me "it happens all the time, its the half shaft, you had a bad axle"

I dont know lol... anyway its awaiting a repair as we speak... very interested to see whats wrong with it

possible reasons for the half shaft to go "crack": power shifting, speed shifting, fucked up axle?? - what he said

anyone want to give their idea of what went wrong?? without that "learn how to drive" or "you beat on your car too much" haha

vid sucks

A half shaft is very possible, but that would not spew oil out of your car, there is some grease in the join (which is what would have broken) but you should not mistake that for oil.

If it was a half shaft every time you hit the gas all the power would be transfered to the busted half shaft (which is just free spinning in the air).

"Power shifting and speed shifting" and just general drag racing can brake half shafts pretty easy, especially with the torque these cars put down.

By the way you're looking at 500ish for the axle and then like 4 hours labor rapeage by the dealer.

I'm terribly sorry for that ...it must be a really unpleasant feeling.

Fixed.

You'll get the call don't worry. Especially if you used the SOS button to get towed.

how do you like your dp's? i got the same ones but didn't get the chance to install yet. car is going in for some stupid brake squeak on the right side at low speeds when im not even pushing the brake. noticeable gain? like, if someone put it in and you didn't know would you be able to tell? :-)

****edit**** i know they'll be a increase, i just would like to have some sort of expectation. thank you.

First of all, was the engine still running fine with no warning lights, etc?
And secondly, was the oil dripping from the front of the car or the rear?
A quick glance under the car would have at least gave you an idea if it is an engine problem or axle problem. It is not an IX, right?

If this is the powertrain, he can't call BMW tow service or the SOS button...He needs to get it to his mechanic or back to his garage and take off all those mods because this is a situation in which BMW will probably take away his warranty...DP's are a must to take out in my opinion and all other mods even including the exhaust if he has one...the most obvious one is the tune itself which goes to say...Good luck with your fix

dam dude im sorry! what a rare thing... its not like this has happened to anyone before really. you must be putting down some serious torque to "break" something on these cars? they're built pretty damn strong... have you guys seen the tranny? its f-in huge! as for the axles it could be the culprit and I hope it is! much easier on your pocket. for me it would be too much of a hassle to remove everything, but do what ever you like .

if you power shifting all the time dropping the clutch, practicing on the street frequently i bet you did break it.. i don't think a 335 or any car was meant to be abused that much..not saying you did but if you did then this makes sense..you can't drop at 1800-3000 5 times a day..

how many miles are on your car? with all the mods i am not surprised.. alot of people just put the obvious mods not paying attention to the parts that get stressed, not changing them out for better stronger parts. that is the danger with modding..hope things turn out for the better. and at least your not bitching and blaming bmw. what are you pushing 400w?

sounds like you NEED an lsd with all the traction issues it couldn't hurt. but if the part was failing then those traction issues make sense but if you don't have an lsd putting down 380-400whp i think your nuts.. your losing so much power one pegging it
