328i or G35S

This is my first post, but I have been on this forum reading for a few months now. I've learned a lot, so thanks!

So here is my question for you. I really want a 2009 E90 but am having difficulty justifying spending $43+ on a car at this stage of my life.

I drive a 2002 WRX which I love, but I need something more "grown up." I want a BMW, and that's about it, but the 230 HP the 328i has doesn't really do anything for me. (On paper...I have yet to test drive any of these.) But for the same price, I can get a G35S with 300 HP.

IF you HAD to choose between a 328i or G35S...which would you pick. I know neither compares to the 335i, but let's keep that to a different post. Both have to be a manual and will keep to minimal options just because I don't really need / want most of them. The sports package on the BMW is mandatory for me.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Even though the G35 is tempting I'd still get the 328i. . .take a test drive and you'll see why. The 328i will surprise you!

Since your asking in a BMW forum, answers can be Bias.

Get the g35. I was planning to get that car instead of the 335. But would be a no brainer if you are debating between a 328 & g35. The navi is awesome!

I'd go with the 328, but definitely take a test drive and decide for yourself.

First, since you're obviously price sensitive, compare insurance premiums and operational costs (fuel economy and scheduled maintenance), and also keep in mind the car's estimated value after 5 years. BMWs hold their value quite well. I have no idea how each would compare in insurance, and that's dependent on you anyway. I also have no idea how Infinity's hold their value, which is also somewhat location dependent as well.

Why not a slightly used 335i? You can get a loaded 2008 335i for 40-43k......

I had to face the same question when i was looking for the car. I actually gone with the G35S with its combination of power, luxury, and price.

2009 has the new G37 Sedan pumping 328 HP, maybe you want to take a look at that too.

g35s sedan. Do it! - you'd be surprise with the technology they have in the car, my blue tooth and ipod works flawlessly. Plus there is plenty of power in the car, handling wise don't feel as solid as the 328i though.

G37S sedan. Don't sell yourself short w/ a 328.

g35 for sure. Great car, great value. Bmw is smoking crack selling cars with 230hp at over 40k. What a joke.

Welcome to the forum

About your choice, G35S or the upcoming G37S sedan is the way to go. It has way more power, easy to operate navi, comfortable seats and good drive too. I dunno about the drive of BMW 328 but G35 seemed pretty good when I test drove it.
About the 6 speed manual, it's improved vastly compared to the old model and shifts are crisp and short.(According to some article I read)

Also the new G37 sedan will also be available in a 7speed auto, so do test drive that version of it.

Do test drive before going with the Infiniti so that you can totally understand what I mean.

I've driven both of these cars as loaners and previously owned a 330i (has a slight edge in power over the 328i).

Infiniti G35S

Surprisingly quick. The engine revs easily and the handling it actually quite good. Though in the Infiniti, I always got the feeling that it had the feeling that the power somewhat exceeds the handling.

BMW 328i
Faster than the 230hp would suggest. In the BMW you feel that the car can handle whatever power you can give it. It seems like a more "solid" car.

In the end, if you go with the G35S you will definitely have better straight line performance. In the curves, both cars have similar capabilities, but the BMW has a better "feel". Ideally, I would look for a CPO BMW 335i. If not, I hate to say it, but the Infiniti may be the better deal.

If you wanted a manual... I would easily take the G37S. The trade off w/ the G37 (if it is like my old Z) is that it is somewhat not as easy to use daily driving (rougher engagement; it seems to hate to shift into first at even 5-10 mph), but the sportiness is there.

The stock shifter is buttery-soft upon engagement, but it feels like a brick in your hands. And the throws are very long.

G35 or G37 hands down over the 328i. You could get a loaded G37 for the price of a poorly optioned 328i. I drove the 2007 g35 when it first came out and it moves, great power. The technology in the car is amazing, just amazing. If I didn't think the car was ugly I would of chosen it in a heartbeat for sure. Ohh why didn't they make the g37 coupe like the concept. Why!

I'll take a 328i over a G if you want a more mature style car....The G is nice too, but 328 looks better IMO

Funny thing is you've a WRX looking into a BMW and I'm actually looking at the 2009 WRX (premium) with Nav...@ $30k is pretty cool car, but they only have manual which I might have to skip cuz my fiancee can't drive manual.

the STI is on Fire but at $40k is lil too much for a wagon and no xenon lights
