Shopping for Winter Wheels: Looking for Ideas

A bit early as I am just about to change back to my summers, but...

I currently have Drag 20x9 22m offset wheels in silver for my winters. The wheels are excellent (and finish is top notch for an inexpensive wheel) and they fit perfectly but I'm thinking I want something more aggressive looking next winter. Also, fitting my sort of big hands through the spokes is difficult for cleaning so would like less spokes for my new wheels.

I like the design of the Vossen HF-5 wheel but they are pretty pricy for a winter wheel and seem to have slits/holes in the spokes which complicate cleaning.

Here's my wish list:
- 20"x9"
- Design similar to HF-5 but less nooks/crannies/holes on spokes to clean
- Fits BMW center cap (new small or older larger one)
- 22mm (or similar) offset
- Hub centric (no rings/spacers needed)
- Slightly darker than silver but not black or too dark

Can anyone offer suggestions to fit the above constraints or provide any other recommendations?

For Reference:

My current wheels:

Ben's Wheels):

I'd strongly suggest looking into the OEM setup, BMW's 764m.

20x9: +29
20x9.5 + 39
w/ 255/45/20 Pirelli Scorpion Winter

I ran mine this past winter and drove it extensively in the heavy snow because it was honestly hilarious how good this thing performed. Here's a shot running 12mm spacers all around. Orbit grey holds up really well to brake dust and the elements.

Hey Hamy - thanks.

Do you have additional pics of those wheels? They look black in those pics but the gray on BMWs site.

Also, I have the 255/45-20 Scorpions already (not sure if they sell the wheels separately) but the staggered OEMs would not allow me to rotate.

Here are some additional picks of the OEM setup for your reference. They are 255/45/20 all around but staggered wheel sizes. I have Pirelli Scorpion Winters on them.

Awesome, thanks!

These look much different in your pics than what I remember seeing on line.

I'll add them to my list of options.

Interesting, assuming this is the 764M Orbit Grey, the site shows two depending which picture you click. First one is this, the other is like yours.

That's a photo of the stock 20s that the X3M non comp come with. They are bicolor. The Orbit Gray are the winter wheel setup.

Thanks. Looks like they only sell with the tires (which I already have).

HRE makes the FF04 in a 20x9 +25 in the 5x112 bolt pattern. I ran their 21" Flow Formed wheel all season and loved it. Some mixed reports on load rating, but the rep I talked to assured me they're fine. Just look for the F90 fitment.

Thanks for the tip. Those are nice but looking to get a Y-spoke style like the below. I'll check to see if they have other styles through:

I like these but they don't fit the OEM center cap:

Try Superspeed or Replika. I have both rims for my winters (wife's X1 & my X3MC)

I really like the BBS CI-R. Expensive but fits (most) of my constraints.

Not sure if it comes in a darker silver though. Hard to tell from the pics.

Looks like they do have a darker color. $3k for the set though and not sure if they fit the OEM center caps:

I vote for these and use the BBS caps. If BMW caps are a must, I'm sure r33_RGSport could come up with an idea.

Thanks for the feedback!

I was reading up on these and it is difficult to get detailed information (like load rating or center cap diameter).

I ran across another thread which stated the center caps are 70mm and if you remove the BBS "sticker" off their cap, the BMW 68mm will glue in perfectly.

I cannot confirm the diameter of these BBS CI-R center caps though.

Considering how much these cost, I would really like to see them in person but not sure if anyone would have them locally.

In more searching, I ran across BC Forged and like their design better but it is a Taiwanese made wheel and more expensive (over $4k for my options).

Again, this is a winter wheel so weight isn't a huge concern.

Like several others, I ended up getting the OEM winter wheels/tires during my time in Germany. I liked the color, didn't care for the style or size, but didn't hate it either.

My existing winter wheels are perfectly fine, this is just a cosmetic upgrade.

I don’t love the OEM wheels so they are out. Not bad, but just not the look I am going for.
