Does anyone know the tread these tires come with from new? Is it only 6mm? That's all my new X3M has on them and they are definitely new!

TireRack shows the Pilot Sport 4 SUV as having 9.5/32 of tread depth.
9.5/32 is 0.296 converted is 7.518mm.

January 26th I put on a new set of 21" PS4S (not the SUV or All Season, but their regular star-rated for the X3MC), and they have a tread depth of 9/32" (7.14mm) on the tirerack.com site. I've put on 1,800 miles of spirited ( ) driving and mine are at roughly 8/32" (6.35mm) now.

Thanks very much for this. I can only assume they have measured mine wrong then. It went back in two days and 200 miles of (very calm) driving after I got it, there's no way they can be at 6mm!

FYI, you don't want to run the suv model on our cars. You want the star rated model.

I understand the star model was designed specifically for the X3M, but what is wrong with running the SUV model? The S model doesn't even appear to be offered in the 20" wheel sizes for my X3M.

Different tire formula, build, and wear. The star model is tested and we know what to expect. A more comfortable ride, more than 12k miles, amazing grip.

4s has a treadware of 300, suv version is only 220 which is horrible. That's actually worse than the conti 6 which gets like 6k miles on them...

Also, the suv version is a total of 12lbs heavier, which is really like 50lbs when you figure it's rotating.

All good points, but basically moot to me as it appears the S model is not offered in the non-comp 20" size.

You don’t get 6k on Conti unless you’re ragging the arse out of it every time. I had just over 9k before I changed to PS4S.

Turns out tread from new is 6.8mm according to dealer, and it's showing 6mm because their device can't measure it right!
