This will always be such a cool and classic special prototype that has sadly lived most of its life in the Giftschrank (BMW Poison Storage) with all of the other cars that could have been. Hopefully they do the next video on the gorgeous E46 M3 Touring Prototype.

Very cool of BMW Classic to do these videos. I also like what they post on their Instagram account. Dare I say the cars are more interesting than what they've got now in production.

Thanks for sharing. This is one of my all time favorite X5s. Another cool item back in the day was the multi trailer. I wish they'd bring back something like that.

I think the E92 and E30 ute's are work trucks used for hauling items around the factory. https://www.autoblog.com/2016/09/27/...types-pickups/

The E30's run lasted for 26 years of service

Found some more information. Apparently it was called the E34 Enduro Touring almost like a sort of camper/activity wagon. It featured a raised roof(13cm), searchlights, bike rack, third row seats, self-leveling air suspension, a fridge and a space for a hot air balloon.

I feel like all the new kids, and I use that term and loving manner, the people that are new to the BMW world, need to watch this video or the original one posted here and come to realize how freaking awesome it was that BMW put a V 12 in an SUV with a six speed transmission!!!!!

As a tidbit, in the youtube comments of the Nordschleife-Video, there was a discussion whether the X5 Le Mans is RWD or AWD, and the general consensus seemed to be that it is RWD. However, in the above video, Hans-Joachim Stuck says it is AWD.

What a collection, the v16 e32 was interesting I've read about it. The motor was so long that they had to put the radiator in the trunk. Hence the massive side ducts behind the rear doors. Just shows the awesomeness of the m division. They build crazy prototypes that work.

It’s part of the reason why there is the X5 M. When this was created, the handwriting was on the wall.
