► Maldives Full Board Vs. All Inclusive
price difference is about $100/night.
i really only drink water and coffee and don't plan on drinking much. what are your experiences with maldives? did you opt for the full or all inclusive and was it worth it?

I've never been there, but to me it all comes down to you. My Ex and I were "goers" we woke up and went. We explored the country we were up and gone a lot, so all inclusive was not for us. Me and my current SO are not so much. We still explore, but we spend many lazy days at the resort and having that freedom is great to not keep your wallet or track what you are doing.
If you like to chill - all inclusive make sense. If you are all about exploring - it's hard to come out ahead with all inclusive. $100 per night is pretty fair for all inclusive to me.

^ what he said. If you’ll be eating and drinking at the resort often then the difference of $100 a day seems fair to me. I did my first few AI resorts in Mexico last few months and they were worth it. There’s food available anytime I wanted it. I like to chill and explore just a few hours of the day vs being out from sunrise to sunset so it fits.
Make sure you book a place with good food though. The cheaper ones have just okay food and you might end up eating out a lot anyway which defeats the purpose. OTOH, don’t book such an expensive place that you feel the need to always be at the resort to eat and drink. It’s a balance. |

As a foodie and a drinker, I would HAVE to go all inclusive.
Maldives/Bora Bora was supposed to be our Honeymoon but my wife talked me into Europe and I'm so glad. I don't think I ever could have dealt with that flight and I'm not a huge water person unless I'm on sand looking at it. |

What is the practical difference between full board and all inclusive? Does full board mean you cook for yourself? I wouldn’t want to grocery shop and prepare meals when visiting a place that far from home, just my take.
My wife and I cook on vacation when we do VRBO and Airbnb but not for an overseas trip. In the Maldives or similar destination, it would be all inclusive for us. We don't drink, so the unlimited booze aspect is not an incentive for us to choose all inclusive. Last edited by chassis; 04-20-2021 at 11:03 PM.. |

I'm having the similar questions for a 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise. Generally, I always go AI if I can find it, but I put on a bender on vacay.
My issue is I can't tell the difference (like here) between their drink options. And having no idea how much a drink costs on the boat, . . . |

Depending on how long you are staying, their capital and it's surrounding islands Male and Hulu-Male will take about 2 days to see the entire islands max. And to get to the other Atolls would take forever on a boat and really pricey with sea-planes. So assuming you are staying on a resort island, just go for the whole package.
And they do have street racing there on one of the back roads in Hulu-Male on Fridays during the afternoon. |

I haven't been to the Maldives but I do know that food/drink cost me an extra $2500 in Bora Bora. When you're secluded on an island, the resort can charge you whatever they want. $50 breakfasts, $100 lunches and $300 dinners was the norm. |
