They should have gave us a driving video of the M Kompact. Built a few of these over the years but mine have always been M/S52 depending on what was available.

Call me crazy, but I always thought these Compacts looked goofy until recently. Now I kind of dig them, and have seen a few for sale with the stock engines for like $5k. The car looks so 90s it's actually cool now

They did look incredibly goofy from certain angles, but I thought they looked good from others. I bought one new in 1996 (5-speed Sport) and sold it in 2010 with 127K miles for around $4.5K with a ̶t̶r̶u̶n̶k̶ hatch full of parts/wheels.

Found my for sale ad photos:

They're fun little cars. My wife and I had one about 10 years ago and I loved it despite the automatic and anemic m42.

Should remain as a show piece. Although better than the home-brew M Compacts that have put me through the ringer several times (no offense intended), it still was very unpredictable in the negative sense.

Like the rims on the red E36, reminds me of the Fox Body Mustang GT's.

I built one forever ago. Was a super rare panoramic sunroof car with the //M spoiler. Wish I hadn't sold it. Was perfect inside and out.

^^^super awesome.

Didn't BMW call those cars with that folding sunroof "California" something-or-other? Or am I making that up?

I was going to mention the California top! Always wanted one of those with an S52 (and suspension bits) in it!

Are those hurricane cloth seats I see?

I agree, but done well, I think they have so much potential. M bumper, "ltw" style 24 wheels, M-variant engine swap and some decent coilovers and you have a pretty cool car.
