West Coast BMW Dyno Day offical sign up!
So the BMW Dyno Day event has officially been booked for November 22nd 2008.
This is a CUSTOMER only event, PLEASE NO TUNERS! Thanks. Note, the price of the dyno runs per car is $60, the $20 fee is a 1/3rd "commitment" down. You make the $20 Paypal transaction then pay the remaining $40 the day of the dyno runs. After a day or two, I will edit this post and put the shop details on here and open up the remaining slots to whomever reads this post and wants to come. Once they make the PayPal deposit, their names will be added to the list. There will be a 20 people max for now, but we will take names of people after that (no deposit required) and they can show up the day of the dyno and if people flake or we have extra time, they'll get their car dynoed for the same $60 total. If everybody wants an early dyno slot (8-10 am) it will be based on sign up order below, so there is no guarantee you'll be dynoed between 8-10 am. The further down the list you are, the later your dyno time will become. 1. Driver72 2. jam0321 3. rotaz 4. slubu 5. down4it 6. SfValley335i (will come in the afternoon now) 7. jwxxx 8. rdsport323 9. tek818 10. 2e9x's (reserved two spots for both his 335i's) 11. 2e9x's 12. Swift 13. JB335 14. nlakind 15. mote 16. onefastdoc 17. 18. ** I will be taking 2 back up people if need be, just in case someone needs to drop out last minute. Once I get 18 people, anyone want to be on the "stand by" list, let me know, you will not put a deposit down to hold a slot, but rather would just show up in the afternoon and get on the dyno if time permits at the end. No problem slubu.
Your car will be our stock "baseline" for the day to compare to all the tuned cars. We may have one other stock car show up too. It'll be a good time, and I'm always happy to meet more people from this forum. |

I just replied to your PM. Let me know when you've made the $20 "down" payment via PayPal, and if you are ok that the total cost of the runs is $60 ($20 down + $40 upon arrival at the shop) That's still VERY cheap for dyno runs. |

Sounds good.
Just a little note to all. As I figured, many want to get on the dyno as early as possible. I know some want as early a time slot as possible because "it's cooler then and the car will perform better and get better numbers." This is partially true. However, a DynoJet has the ability to "correct" for temperature. So the earliest cars may have no correction factor where the later cars a little "correction" can be dialed in to even things out a bit. Also note, the "average" high temp. for that day in this area is 72 degrees. That would occur around 3-4 pm. Still not hot by any means. And look at it this way, though some cars may have to go a bit later, when it's 10-15 degrees warmer, the dyno operator can "correct" the numbers a bit for the warmer weather and if you come early, your car will have more of a chance to cool down so though the outside air might be 10-15 degrees warmer, your engine/intercooler/intake/etc might be 50 degrees cooler. All in all, I think the difference between being the first car in the morning with the cooler temps (and probably a bit warmer of an engine) and the last car to go in the afternoon (with an engine that might be cooler) will probably be within 2-4 rwhp of each other. You can, AND WILL get that much variation between runs. And you can get as much as 10 rwhp variation from stock car to stock car. So bottom line, don't worry about what time of day you go. The best might be in the middle. Get on the rollers around 11-1 when it's still not the hottest time of day, but if you've been there for 2-3 hours already your engine will be nice and cool too. Cheers all. |

Having an M3 for comparisons would be great.

I actually had one 135i with an SSTT say he wanted to come in my first dyno day post, but have not heard back from him. I will post on 1addicts and the 5 series forums soon. |

If anybody knows anybody with a 535i with a tune on it, please contact them and see if they'd be interested in this dyno day.
We probably only have room for 1 or 2 535i's. I'm hoping to get 1-3 135i's there too and have posted it on 1addicts so if we can get 1-3 135i's and 1-2 535i's and if we get lucky 1 e90/e92 M3 |

Driver72, seems like you made the goal... 135 and m3? Simple, Terry has the 135, and longtran has the m3.... Worst case scenario can probably test drive an m3 from the dealer... |

He may in fact swing by, but in order to not feel like any results were skewed because he's a tuner, he feels he should maybe not run his car. I invited Shiv as well. Shiv too may or may not be able to make it. Like others have said, who knows if the tuners have given themselves a "special" map just for the dyno results. I don't think either would do it, but you know that those accusations would fly, especially if their own cars got above average results. I wouldn't mind seeing both there, but let's be honest, the tension could make the event unenjoyable if they are both there at the same time. To be honest, it's probably best if neither run their cars. I'll PM Longtran if he's still on this board, if not, if you have his contact number, give him a ring and ask him to contact me. |
