you guys were not lying - this thing is quick! plus complete xenon retrofit!

i took my 328 to the dealer for it's annual maintenance and requested for a 335 loaner. damn! this thing is quick! i did some driving today with the 335 and it was so much fun! auto mode is still boring and sluggish though. ds and manual modes are pretty good and definitely much much better than my 328's. the other great thing about this 335xi is its exhaust note/sound. it's just beautiful.

good thing i'll be enjoying this TT for another week as my dealership is working on doing a complete xenon retrofit of my (diy) xenon conversion. i told them about my mod and they're willing to redo what i've done and do a complete retrofit. the price is a bit steep but it will be worth it.

i'm excited to get my 328 back but i'm sure i'll be a bit disappointed with it now that i've personally experienced what a 335 can do.

my wife's getting annoyed at me now because i won't stop talking about the 335. unfortunately for her i just couldn't help it.

Be careful. Once you get bitten, it's hard to turn back. Make sure you turn off the dtc/dsc too.

i know. i'd probably regret driving the 335 as i might be thinking about it more now.

i'm sure it will depend from dealer to dealer and very few actually are willing to do this. i'll just pm you the price.

i've been very tempted to trade-in for a 335 a few times in the past but i've always managed to convince myself to be reasonable/practical. it will be a little harder convincing myself now.

OP, if you've got the extra $$ lying around this is a great time to do the deal. A lot of car dealers are hurting in a big way, so if you showed up with cash in hand I'm sure there will be much flexibility on price. might as well really go for it and get a M3

And actually.. a V6 camry with 6spd auto is faster than a 328 in a straight line.. heck i think many V8 pickup trucks are faster than a 328 in a straight line... but we both knew that before we purchased right ?

agree. the opportunity is great right now to make a good deal on these cars. i can afford a 335 or an m3 (plus my 328 was paid off 6 mos ago) but i still like/enjoy my 328. it's plenty fast in the highway. drop it down to 4th gear at high speed and you got a quite quick and responsive car. i'd obviously want a better car but i don't need it. and that's the problem with me, i'm being sensible.

honestly, i didn't know that. hehe. i actually had a V6 Camry Solara SLE prior to this so what you just mentioned was a perfect case for me. i didn't do my research and ended up with the 328xi (i was leaning heavily on an AWD that time so that's probably why). getting the 335 would have been be a no-brainer that time i guess had i known about it.

i'll definitely be getting a 335 later on but not yet.

What's up Allan!!!

I'm glad that you're being smart and will be sticking with the 328.I know that the 335 is a lot of fun, but most of the time, I don't even WOT my car. It's nice to have the extra HP/TQ when you need it, but I haven't needed it in a couple of months. lol!

Btw, PM me the price that your dealership is charging you. I'm just curious.

See you around.

BAD idea to get behind the wheel of the 335.

You're going to ask for a N54 retrofit pretty soon!

I wouldn't mind being PM'd the price as well. I did the conversion and my dealer did the install as well. Although I just had them do the wire switching, footwell module and programming for $1,000. I didn't go all out which is what you seem to be doing. I can imagine that being another +$1,000 or more maybe since you would need to change the whole wire harness and add the adaptive sensors.

eh, I had one as a loaner about 2 months ago as well. The car was a fucking blast, but I didn't see the need to go running in to swap my car out and I have the lowly 325i not even a 328i

My 335 is great fun but that all gets wasted sitting in traffic every day getting to and from work! If you have the room to roam then the TT is awesome, if you are sitting in traffic moving at 10mph the 328 is just fine!

i definitely agree with both of you. and actually, a 328 is more than fine. it's plenty fast and very enjoyable. just don't use the auto mode and try to drive at 3K+ rpm often.

to trade in my 328 for a 335 it would set me back another 20K (about 7k in loss plus a good 13K in price difference given the current price for a new 335 with the options i want). it's affordable but not worth it to replace a very nice 328.

be careful when you turn off DTC/DSC. A friend of mine, 325 driver, got a loaner 335 and turned off the traction control. He learned the hard way, he spun out and hit a mailbox.
