Headlight chip - repair options or nah?

Well 720 miles in first injury has appeared in the form of a big ass rock chip in the right headlight. Pics actually minimize it, it looks pretty big/bad from 6 feet and is pretty deep with a fingernail test. Makes me worry that the headlights are maybe super soft and vulnerable? Front end has no other damage of any kind.

Possible to repair this kind of thing or should I just suck it up?

Also curious about PPF, do people put this on headlights? If yes, how bad would it look to put it over top of an existing chip? Possible it could even minimize the look of it?

Thanks in advance for help/advice on this.

Yes, most PPF their headlights. In fact when I first did PPF it was to protect the headlights as they were generally very expensive once Xenon debuted.

Did you even get those headlights fixed? I have a scratch on both of mine from my own doing and I'm fumin'

I guess PPF after the fact would hide it but still...

Whether you repair it or not depends on how much it costs doesn't it? Can't hurt to check into it. Maybe since you don't need any of the electronics it won't be that bad?

As far as PPF, my installer includes that in their 'front' protection.

Not much you can do to fix it except replace the lights. I just had ppf applied over top of it, it helped minimize and reduce additional damage. I think I paid $100 for both but can't remember.

Laserlights are $7,000 apiece to replace (don't know the cost of standard LED headlamp). PPF for $100 to minimize existing damage or prevent future damage is a relative bargain.

Another option (before applying PPF) is inquiring whether Safelite or similar outfit can inject whatever stuff they use in windshield chips to minimize the aesthetic damage.

That can't be fixed. Generally you want to PPF before you get the damage. These are expensive headlights and PPF is cheap. PPF also tends to exacerbate the look of damage if applied afterwards.

You say this can't be fixed. Is it because it's a chip? Light scratches should be able to be polished out though, right?

I am def getting PPF on my lights during my follow up PPF appointment but hope they can buff out some light scratches.

Surface scratches can definitely be polished out.
