**BMS JB3 PNP full review!!

Introduction:
Being a owner and I still am of the SSTT, I wanted to try something new with some more power, and something more advanced. With so many options that are currently out there i started my research. After a lot of research/ PM’s, being driven in a JB3 car and talking with my friends about the JB3, I finally went with the JB3 PNP. The super easy install, great reviews, great power and easy use coming from the SSTT was very appealing. I think this is the PERFECT upgrade from the SSTT!

The INSTALL:
Terry was very helpful with the almost hundred emails and PM’s I sent him with questions regarding the JB3 and such. Very patient, very nice and could be contacted anytime of the day, mon-sun and get a reply, if not within the hour, in the same day. Along with a 2 week money back gurantee; if i wasnt fully satisified, it was just perfect!

I went and ordered the JB3 PNP with the 29.2/v81 capability. I have a pre 29.2 car, but wanted to be extra safe and ready for the future Since it’s pretty much backwards compatible so why not.

I was cleaning my car when a package arrived to my house, it was the JB3, took maybe 2 days to ship and get to my house!

Went to my car and started removing the negative terminal on the battery right away so I can get the JB3 on.
I had the instructions printed before hand and watched the video numerous times before I got it so I was ready.

Took the plastics and cowl off, and went for the ECU. The install took me 15-20 min!!! Everything was so easy to do and to take off. Everything had a clip or something and it came off very easily. If you are forcing it you aren’t doing it right is a good practice for working in the ECU. The PNP is super easy to install, since everything matches up by color and color of the wires, if you’re paying attention, you cannot do it wrong. Plug everything up, put the lid back on the ECU and put the plastics and cowl back on, and your done! As a SSTT user, the install was simple, easy and fast. I felt very confident doing the install since I don’t like touching the ECU at all, but with this PNP kit it was a walk in the park and with this easy to use PNP JB3 with no power taps/ground taps and small package, it went very easy.

The Drive:
So I put my tools away and anything of a mess I left started the car let it idle for a min or two and went for a 15 minute drive to get the cars temp up slowly.
Car got to about 230*F and I was still just cruising around to get the car warm. Got to my testing area and that is where I opened her up. Pushed the throttle to the floor in second gear and this thing just exploded! The power and the rush was amazing, the faster the gear I was in, the harder this thing pulled. I did a 60mph roll and floored it, this thing jumped to 120mph without even thinking twice! And it just wanted to keep going and going!!
The push back in your seat feeling and the rush you get with this accel. Is great. Simple as that. 1st gear is almost useless; the power can just shred the tires or just make traction control go crazy. Second gear is about the same story as 1st but if you can hook, man does it GO! Second gear with traction control fully off, around 4-5k rpm roll I go WOT the tires spin goes into third it catches grip and it just blasts off!

Going from around a 2nd or 3rd gear roll to top of 4th your stomach just drops.
This push feeling into your seat is great! I can’t help but going WOT, it’s just so much fun. You cannot mistake the pull and the force your put into your seat with and the insane speed!
The power is smooth and there are no hiccups through the power band.
The power band is very nice, really good TQ down low, great midrange and top end holds very nicely as well.

Throttle based boost input:
When my car was stock I can go into 1st give half throttle and all of a sudden I get FULL BOOST when I didn’t even want it, and if I give full throttle during this I don’t get nothing because the car already decided I need full boost at half throttle for some reason.
Well with the Throttle based boost control, the car goes by how much throttle you give to the amount of boost that is made. So 50% throttle is going to make 50% boost and full throttle is going to make full boost i am told. More controllable and smoother for the driver. At first I wasn’t use to it, but after about a week of driving with it, it is a welcome feature and they should have made it like this from the factory!

Daily driving:
Under 50% and during idle the JB3 is almost not working at all, this is done to keep the Stock like features during daily driving I am told, above 50% is where the JB3 kicks in to do the work, this is done to keep the stock drivability and smooth stock power but with the advanced help of the throttle based boost control.
Very easy to drive, more controllable and just smoother then stock around town. After letting my buddy drive it around town(no WOT) he couldn’t tell any difference with the daily driving, but he did note it was smoother and the throttle was definitely smoother! so that was just another person to testify to the great daily driving of the JB3.

OVERALL:
I am very impressed! the power is addicting, i mean like crack! Its everything i would want and more.

I have a full bolt on JB3 car minus the FMIC and I raced my old stock turbo evo IX at 375awhp and it was dead even with me bouncing the rev limiter in 3rd. This particular evo weigns around 3100lbs. so if my car is as fast, or possibly a little faster with good driving means I'm putting down MORE than 400+whp since the 335i weighs around 600lbs. more than the evo. Does this kind of logic seem accurate? Either way... JB3 FTW!

I'm curious, does this help the shifting smoothness while driving in DS?

Also, excellent review. Really making me think about taking the plunge on a JB3.... even though it's my fiance's car and not mine

nice review. however, i'm surprised you felt that much of a low end "push in the seat" cuz i didnt feel that. the car had Xede b4 and it has some mad low end compare to JB3 so when i drive the JB3, it felt like stock and dont give any type of rush feeling until u get up in the rpm (which is easily confirmed through dyno graph). i never driven an SSTT car so i guess can't compare. don't get me wrong, JB3 is still overall much better, easier to live with, and will pull much harder up top, but from low end, the older tunes are mcuh crazier (JB2, Xede, etc,.). i actually think 1st gear in JB3 is sooooo easy to drive. with the Xede, i would literarlly shred tire from 1st to 3rd gears (or traction cotrol cuts power) easily. xede could chirp tire even at 4th gear..pretty mad low end. i've made request to Terry to mix in some more low end on future JB3 updates .. that would then make it a perfect tune

Not quite. A 335i is in the upper 35xx lb range, according to BMW. But according to measurements taken at racetracks by some folks here, as well as C&D on their racetrack events, it's more like 33xx lbs (coupe at least). Not sure if that is apples to apples but there you have it. Definitely not 600 lbs over your Evo

OP has gone from SSTT to JB3 which is a world of a difference in almost every single aspect!! He should be feeling a totally different animal with his car, and from his post he sure does feel the difference!!! Nice Job and congrats on the tune!!

-bBubbletea 4 me, i have the newest map which is 1.1.
You might have had the old 1.0 map which from i know makes a good amount less TQ down low.(2psi less under 4k rpm compared to 1.1)

Again thanks for all the kind words, really appreciate it guys!

Just curious, any comments regarding comparisons between JB3 and SSTT? Pluses and minuses to both?

Interesting that JB2 is "crazier" than JB3. That doesn't make sense to me. Can you explain more? Anyone else experience that? Jus' curious.

i never owned a JB2 before but i was told it's pretty similar to Xede in the way power is delievered. i mentioned JB2 in there because not that many people have Xede.

OP had a great review and JB3 is a great product, i guess i'm just one of the only few who actually wanted a bit more down low, who enjoyed some of that low end roughness.

anyhow, i would strongly suggest JB3 to everyone who is on the fence.
