Spare Tire/Wheel for G80 M3
Since these don't come with a spare or runflats, I was going to do what I've done with my previous M cars... go to Discount Tire and buy the cheapest wheel and cheapest tire that fits and keep it in my trunk.
However, searching DiscountTire.com, TireRack.com, etc, there are zero options for wheels that fit this car. How is that possible? Anyone know where to get one?

It’ll take some creativity. Here’s an example of what you might have to go through, where an E9X owner used a BMW minivan spare.

Yeah, I'm not looking for a compact spare, I'm looking for full size. I never had an issue finding a wheel that fit on my E92 or F82

Complete lack of any aftermarket wheels means you can't take this car on long road trips with overnight driving unless you don't mind waiting on the side of the highway for hours.

If you’re up for a scavenger hunt (and being a guinea pig), you could look for a similarly sized, used BMW wheel. https://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/information/fitting_chart/bmw 19x9.5 et20 is probably going to be your best starting point in terms of tire choices and what should clear the front and rear rotors. You could step down to the stock 18 dimensions, but tires seem even more limited for those specs. |

Realistically, this isn't the best car for a long road trip with the family, but it is more practical for my needs than a 911. |

I have to say owning my e90 M for 10 years this never happened… and if I came to a flat it was usually in the garage… I think with the Tpms you're def alerted ahead of time if there is a continuous issue, and you can be prepared…. I had 20" BBS's on my M and as long as my sensors were good I saw no reason to carry a spare…

No spare or accessories. You gotta live on the edge...
- From a guy who had to tow his m4 100+ miles once. But that was due to LA roads... your tires would be less likely to pop driving through a minefield in Normandy. |

Also, I'm glad I don't have to have winter wheels.

Did you all get the BMW mobility kit as standard? I didn't and am buying one from the dealer as couldn't find any online that looked legit. It's costing me an arm and a leg and I suppose I should have gone with a 3rd party alternative.
Ive never actually used one - but would that be a cheaper alternative to a spare? |

I actually had nails pulled out of the tires on my F82 a couple of times, but luck or design, they always plugged their own holes and were only noticed when I had the car in for service. As for the mobility kit itself, there's a horror story somewhere on the F82 forum of a guy who opened the storage cover bed in his trunk to find that the foam can had burst. Apparently after 5+ years or so there's a chance of that happening. |

I had a flat last summer in my X3M on a long road trip, and another flat this year in my X3M on a long road trip. That was after about 100,000 miles of road trips and no flats. So, stuff happens, and it’s best to assume you WILL get a flat in the worst possible location. Do NOT assume Road Side Assistance will help you: in my case, they said, “Call 911, we don’t service your area”. Which apparently is typical. So rather than wait for hours and hours, just change your own spare.
The mini spares are limited to 50 mph and also to 50 MILES. They are like wearing paper shoes. They will not get you far. Fix-a-flat goes bad. Make sure your can is fresh (less than 1 year old). But Fix-A-Flat and those tire patching kits will not fix all flats. For my M3, I’ve ordered a set of 963M wheels - including a 3rd front - from GetBMWParts.com. The 3rd front will be a full size spare for all road trips. The 19”/20” difference isn’t enough to cause issues (only a 0.4% circumference), so running a front tire on the rear for even 1000 miles is fine, enough to get me to a city where I can order a new tire. I’m putting Michelin All Season 4 tires on the 963M wheels (they will be my “winter” set too). As mentioned by an above post, get one of those scissor jacks from ModernSpare.com. They make one that fits the BMW jack point. Get a breaker bar, and get a torque wrench. Having an LED lantern, gloves, a traffic cone etc can be useful. |
