Stacking JB3 with SS Turbo Tuner!!!!!!!
Hey guys,
Recently I bought and installed Juice Box 3 on my BMW 335i. I had the SSTT before and in all the excitement I forgot to remove the turbo tuner, so for the last month I drove with both chips so here is my experience. Never had any problems and the car was super fast. Once I realized what happened, I actually went to a pro-body shop and had some testing done on my car with the JB3 alone and with the JB3 + the turbo tuner together stacked. Interesting results. I did Dynojet testing with the JB3 alone and with both chips stacked. Now just to let you know what I have been experiencing driving with the two chips. First, I drove the car for a few weeks with the turbo tuner alone. Great power difference. Good start off the line but there is that bad turbo lag. Engine rpm's redline for a few seconds then turbo spools and car takes off. No tire screeching or anything but good enough take off. Second, I drove with the JB3 for a while by itself. Even better start off the line. Some tire screeching, but again, bad turbo lag for 2-3 seconds before car makes a run for it. Usually redlines first before take off. Third, I drove for 1 month with both the JB3 and the turbo tuner stacked. Off the line, the car is much faster than with either chip alone. there is NO turbo lag whatsoever. I tried many different takeoffs and NO turbo lag. The start off torque is amazing. Tires screeching and the back of the car sways a little bit left-right-left from the power. There is a very powerful, smooth and CONSTANT power increase when taking off. Again, with no lag or loss of power or waiting for turbos to spool. I had the car connected to a boost gauge today in my testing. With both chips together, the max boost pressure was 15psi and drops to 10psi with shifting. Never went above 15psi. Tried several runs. Never had limp mode errors or other problems. I had testing done at professional testing facility and it was done by professionals. They were impressed by the dyno results and of how the car drove with the chips stacked. They said it felt much better and more powerful and faster with the chips stacked. They did not think there was any trouble or danger of blowing my turbos and recommended I continue with both chips together. They also felt the significant turbo lag with the JB3 chip by itself. I know the turbo lag is definitely not b/c of the JB3 but because of that BMW computer upgrade. This was done in Las Vegas Nevada inside a warehouse garage which has doors open to ouytside. Temp around 70 F with a fan blowing on the engine. Sorry I am not an expert and can't be more descriptive. Why are these dyno values so much lower than other dyno test graphs floating around which show Max Power at about 400 with torque about 400?? A Maw Power at the wheels of 340 translates into how much true HP exactly? I have attached 3 graphs from my dyno tests today. First one you see is with the JB3 alone (Max Power 332.95). The second graph is with the JB3 and TT in automatic mode (max power 333.06) OH and LOOK at the torque increase too. Third graph is with JB3 and TT with manual shifting. (max power 341.67) and with this run the car maxed out at about 137 or so and the governor kicked in and shut off the gas. All 3 of these runs were the first runs of their series. With each subsequent run, the power was slightly less and the torque was slightly less and thats because the engine was heating up with each run. As you can see the JB3 AND the TT together work great. USE THIS INFO AT YOUR OWN RISK. THESE ARE JUST MY FINDINGS. I also have the dual cone filters. No other mods. I hope I could have provided something that may be useful to you and any input would be appreciated. Thank you. |

The guys who did the testing work on racing cars and said it all looked fine and I shouldn't have problems. They really pushed the car to the max in their tests and were all pleasantly surprised at the results.

Hey Zeph, I am not a car expert by any means or nor do I pretend to be one or know all the lingo. I just did this for fun for me just to know and I thought I post the results.
What I was trying to say is that the car had turbo lag and usually it would redline for a few secs before the turbo kicked in. Now there is no turbo lag. I wish i was smoking something then maybe i wouldn't have cared about the turbo lag at all lol |

You got some balls for using the JB3/SSTT on top of each other!

I havent had any error codes. I plan to take my car for maintenance at a performance shop and not to the actual BMW dealership. That way they won't know about any of my mods anyway

UR crazy to keep running that set-up. I know you have been using it, and not showing excessive boost. But still, crazy stacking tunes.

Regardless of whether this is damaging or not, imagine if you did aftermarket intake and exhaust? You'd be set up to start beatin some vette z06's!
