Intercooler sprayer

Has anyone installed an FMIC sprayer on their N54? I dyno’d 40whp more on my second run due to my FMIC being sprayed with a water bottle throughout the run. No tuning or fuel changes.

I've seen where guys have had nitrous spray bars hooked up to their FMIC's......it will basically freeze the FMIC.

Honestly, unless you are drag racing and need that extra little boost to win a race......it's a lot more trouble than it's worth. Just have a runner dial in a couple pounds more boost...and there's your 40hp 😁

I was hoping to grab a few more horses without adding more stress on the turbos. My turbos are rated at 525whp max for longevity.

If you want to do this, just grab something from an old WRX or what not, modify it for your use and you're good to go. I've seen someone mess with the headlight washer valves repurposed.

Generally speaking a water/meth system is less hassle, easier to implement and adds some much loved octane on the N54.

Thanks for the reply. I am just kicking around the idea for now. I would think that spraying the FMIC would be much cheaper/easier than a meth setup. I’ll do a little research on the WRX forums.

are you on stock intercooler ?

that would be the only logical explanation how you made 40whp more if that small fmic was heat soaked

Can't see 40hp increase with just sprayer on a 7in intercooler.
Maybe with freezing cold water?? You need before and after temps.

Yeah...if it was that easy to gain 40hp.... everyone with an N54 would be doing it.

Don’t forget that we didn’t get inlets until almost 2014. By then the engine wasn’t even in production anymore. People in the Subaru world include inlets in their FBO list. I was hoping FMIC spraying might be one that we forgot.

i have been spraying it on occasions when its really hot and i go to the track. Little to no difference, it goes down by a couple degrees. I have also tried spraying a 40lb bottle of Co2 which didnt help much either. You would need to spray nitrous or meth to have a noticeable effect. Also last n54 production date is 2016. Z4 had it.

Did the 2016 z4 get a better LPFP? Seems like a better one would have been developed between 2007-2016.

i have a 2010 535xi and i know they have better lpfps, some people run e50 blends without issues. I think its on par with walbro 450s. I wouldnt be surprised if Z4s have a better pump too. I do know that they dont have a lpfp sensor so you cant monitor the psi which sucks.

Sorry for my late reply and reviving a week old thread, but just wanted to comment on this info.

Robs rating on the RB Twos (and all of his turbos for that matter) are very conservative. Idk what he recommends for max boost on the standard Twos, but I'm sure they can eclipse 525whp while remaining well within their efficiency range for longevity reasons. A proper setup is a must, of course.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's a cheap method to make that much more power without more stress on the turbos. Your best bet would probably be heavy E85 mixes on port injection.

You might not be ready for that kind of investment, but I would at least keep it in the cards for the future. On 100% E85 and with the addition of outlets I wouldn't be surprised if the Twos could pretty safely make 550+whp with a quality tune.

RB Twos on 100% E85, I'd expect closer to 600 at the wheels. That would be damn squirrely.

You need port injection to run 100% e85....and yes, that would probably get you 600hp.

So n54s can’t run 100% e85 on a stage 2 or 3 lpfp?
