who else misses these
Starting to like my G80 better as I break in the miles and get to know its behavior better. May sound odd but really like the downshifts of the new box, rapid and drama-free, balance and handling gives so much confidence....
but I miss these items almost everyday - no sunshade! why ? just why...? my baby gets cooked in the rear seat. - trunk foot sensor. That was much more useful than the power tailgate. a couple of heavy grocery bags and or hands full with something you don't want to put on the ground and you realize what is missing. - no A/C button, takes a long trip down the menu to disable A/C without truing off the fan. the decision to remove the AC button was really stupid -no air temp control. you can't instantly make the air warmer or cooler using the good old air temp wheel - Round legible gauges: Don't like the cluster graphics in road view at all, weird and hard to read. can't see the rev's. The graphics is not appropriate for a hardcore performance oriented car. M-mode is better but still can't make out the rev's. accurately...doesn't look like a precision gauge. No excuses for a sloppy job with all digital instruments. -dedicated buttons to change engine response and shocks. what if the combo you want isn't programmed in m1/m2? need a trip down the menu to change these.... -If I lived in cold climate I am pretty sure I'd be missing the rear seat heaters. Am I the only one missing these?

The lack of the dedicated AC button is my biggest annoyance of this platform from this list.
The missing air temp control knob is a close second. |

I didn't like having to hit the fan down button to turn the cooling off completely, until I realized you can just hold it down for a second.

What I did is programmed button 8 to bring up the AC screen highlighting that stupid checkbox and then I just have to press down on the idrive controller knob to toggle the AC on and off. Less than ideal but livable. |

And a proper stereo. The very mediocre Harmon Kardon stereo leaves a lot to be desired.

Have to disagree here. I have never needed to turn off the a/c and I have not missed the temp wheel in years.
The sunshade and foot sensor I completely understand. Analogue gauge is not something I miss to be honest. Each to their own. |

The HVAC stuff isn't a big bother to me, but I do miss the foot-activated trunk.
I don't care for sunshades and don't have young children, so that's just weight saved IMHO and less crap to break later. Because they always break. I would prefer analog gauges. Or more options to configure the display... since it's all computer generated animation, there's no reason that we can't have fake analog gauges or other layouts. M1 & M2 is enough for me. The default mode is fine for me most of the time, then I have M1 set for "loud" and M2 set for track.

BMW can do good digital gauges. Pre-ID7 M5 and X3M round digital gauges are excellent. For whatever reason the BMW brain trust decided they wanted to do something totally different than traditional gauges and unfortunately it's just not very good and few people like it. What bothers me more is despite universal dislike by automotive press and enthusiasts it appears they are keeping this counterintuitive setup for ID8.

This is good to know, thanks! I thought this would turn off the whole system, meaning the fan would turn off. The fact that the fan stays on and only the A/C function turns off is a nice use of the voice command.

I tried to rename mine to "Frog" and it kept triggering off of many non-Frog words. I keep meaning to try "Hey Frog" instead of just "Frog".

On all the BMWs I've owned I've never used (and never seen much point in) the red/blue temp wheel thing. Anyway, I got flamed the other day for questioning someone's opinion on the front camera dot, so I'll echo the 'each to their own' comment! |

What do you mean you can't use your foot to open up the trunk anymore?
I have a G20 and I use my foot to open up my trunk but I thought I still came with the G80? |

Nope, it is not available for the G80. At least wasn't for mine which I took delivery of in March (2021 M3C model).

Agreed with the gauges, they are quite bad to look at and quickly absorb info while driving- esp the tachometer. When I buy a new MT car I like to look at the tach here and there to familiarize myself with the gearbox, and to learn a few reference points of what rpm the motor sits at at certain speeds. Even on my 10 minute test drive, the gauges being annoying became quickly obvious. It actually made me spec in the executive package for the HUD, because it provides all the info you need in a quickly readable manner.
