Chargepipe with bov AND dv's ??

Just purchased a box of some used N54 parts, included was a metal charge pipe & BOV kit. I'm confused as to why this pipe would need connections for the DV's since it's setup to house a BOV. Can anyone explain this?

@streetpro

Could I use both? Install a BOV and hook up the oem DVs to the same charge pipe?

I guess you could but… I wouldn't do that. No real reason to.

there is no reason to install both, if anything you will have more lag. the pipe is universal, if you use BOV you need to plug the other holes and vice versa.

@Dave92N54 nzero Thanks for the replies, I might sell this one and get one without the DV hookups. I prefer the seamless look of the non-universal ones.

For me it's cool to have the choice of running BOV or DVs.

Anyway, if you run a BOV, just plug the two DV holes with some plugs and worm clamps.

And if you run DVs (stock or aftermarket), i don't know if you can find a big plug for the BOV hole but you must to find one.

I don't think you have to dump it, since i don't think it will do any difference with another charge pipe if you plug DV or BOV correctly.

Running both is weird but i don't think it will do anything harmful, but i i do not think it's useful too.

@studio54 You bring up a good point. If I were to run this charge pipe and either the DVs or BOV were to fail (whichever is being used) I could simply swap blow-off methods without removing the charge pipe.

The kit came with a fake Tial BOV. Is there any harm in running a generic BOV? If not, I might just throw it on there..

It comes with a fake Tial BOV, which is not a problem if it works properly ?

Do you hear it dumping boost excess on let off? like "pssshhhh" ?

Are the DV holes plugged correctly ???

ya if you got the $ for it why not. but if you want to salvage that pipe, i doubt those ports will show, the stock airbox or aftermarket dualcone filters will be sitting over that area.

Yep, thinks like you, if both DV holes are plugged correctly, it will not make any difference, aside from look.

@studio54 The stock charge pipe and DV's are solid right now. I just wanted to make sure the BOV that came with it wouldn't be harmful to the engine since it's not "authentic". Obviously there are some parts that shouldn't cheaped out on… making sure the BOV isn't one of those.

@nzero @studio54

Included were some rubber caps for the DV hookups. I have some hose-clamps to tighten them on. The only part I need to complete the kit is a v-band clamp to secure the BOV to the charge pipe.

And I'm fairly certain I can reuse the C-clip from the oem chargepipe.

keep the pipe, save more $ for a authentic BOV.

with cheap/fake stuff, either the BOV just stuck open letting all the boost out, or worst it sticks closed and you end up blowing off a hose. should run fine for 1-3months, 6 at best.

@nzero And new c-clips are comically overpriced.

So from what I’m understanding if I stick with stock DV but upgraded charge pipe, it’s more of a maintenance move rather than performance? Correct me if I’m wrong, I’m just trying to understand the complexity of it

If you tune your car, you'll be running higher boost psi, so you'll need an aluminum chargepipe to be able to hold the increased boost pressure.

The OEM chargepipe is plastic and has cracked under load on a few peoples cars even on the manufacturer base tune. This isn't super common but it can happen. Chargepipes are generally for modification/upgrade purposes but if your OEM chargepipe breaks for any reason, why not upgrade and never have to worry about it again?

For your conservative build (I saw your other post) I'd recommend what you see pictured on this thread. Stick with diverter valves and get basically any chargepipe brand. Stock diverter valves are good up to 20 psi anyways. BOVs are expensive and cost more than the chargepipe itself.
