I was just watching Taylor Rays new video (not a bmw guy) and he just purchased a Pro 1 FD drift car. He mentioned that the car came with a set of 3 way Moton coil overs, but he's taking them off because he thinks the car will handle better with a nicely spec'd set of BC's. The starting price for a set of Moton coil overs is $5k, so I'm wondering why he would do this as I see a lot of people on this forum saying BC's are trash.

The reason for the question in the title is my plan to buy a set of ST XTS (equivalent of KW V3) coilovers. I looked at and researched the BC's and found that most people said they were garbage so I went a little more expensive and found the ST's. Anyway I'm wondering if the reason people are saying the BC's are terrible is improper spring rates or something like that because I see a lot of really great drivers using them on very expensive cars.

Also if anyone has a better suggestion for coilovers in a similar price range I would love to hear them.

Maybe if you had them spec and build a custom set not off the shelf they would be a good option, but I can almost guarantee the ST's are a better option.

BC are terrible for sure....also made in China.
I have the ST coilovers on my xi which are the same internals as the kw v1. They have been on my car for 6 years and have been great.
I assume the ones you are mentioning will be even better.

I installed st's like a month ago I actually feel like they ride better than stock but that's probably from them being old and worn. Im as low as it can go in the rear and about 6-7 threads from the lowest in the front and it's still a comfortable ride. Feels way more planted and nimble at higher speeds overall It's a really nice setup for the money

Sounds about right, haven't heard anything bad about them, definitely the route I will go

Only drawback with st's are their galvanized and they will rust if you live in the rust belt

I don’t think BC are terrible. I have them installed and no complaints. I installed then with m3 front control arms and handling/grip improved a lot. No weird clunking noises people have mentioned in other threads. However considering price, I’d go with ST’s.

I have the control arms as well just waiting for the coils so I only have to get an alignment done once. If you feel that way then why didn't you go with ST?

Loved my ST's when I had them and feel they rode the best out of all the setups I've tried. You don't get damping adjustment or camber unless you get some non oem top hats. But they are valved so well can't complain. If there was damping adjustment I'd go like 1 click stiffer.

I wanted to support a local vendor and they didn’t have ST’s, only BC in stock at the time... The reviews I read were mainly good about BC on this platform so I was comfortable purchasing them. Regardless, you’re going to be very happy either route you go especially in conjunction with control arms. Your car will transform. BC just happens to be China made but I do notice a good number high-end sports cars run them.

I plan on buying the ST XTS version which I believe have damping and rebound adjustment, as well as camber plates.

Yep that's why I was wondering. Seeing cars that are much much more expensive than mine running them made me reconsider.
