What if BMW had been able to co-launch the 2 series with a E-version.

Would you have considered it?

Imagine it dropping with the large and curved display from the BMW i4 and iX which is also being infused into the 2022 BMW 3 Series Facelift ?

personally I am down with the E-cars quite yet. Petrol cars will be the way of the Dodo bird soon so get the best ones you want for the next 5 years and look at holding onto the special cars like NSX, Viper, anything with a V10 like the M5 (even though it will break down at some point) those cars will be special later in 10-15 years.

This...electric cars are the future. They are faster and more efficient, but the sound that comes out of that inline 6 cylinder is something special. It makes every day driving way more fun.

I'm going to enjoy combustion engines until they stop producing them

Wouldn't that make it an "i" version? If they offered a PHEV (like the X5 45e) where you could still have the ICE (w/same 382hp), but use battery for commuting it would've been tempting.

With the battery revolution headed our way I'll lease my new M240i for 3 years, then purchase a new 24' M2 and hold on to that car. I'll have that paid off in time to get a 28' or 29' S650 Mustang V8 and hold on to that. From there on it seems like it'll be battery powered will be the only choice.

Does anyone else have any plans for the end of the ICE era?

I like the electric idea in general. I do need range, though. Kind of like others, I realize that this may be my last ICE vehicle.

I'm actually a lot less keen on the curved tablet glue-gunned to the dashboard aesthetic. If I wanted to feel like I was in front of a television with few physical switches, well, there's plenty of competition. I know. I know. It's trendy & cheap.

All them pure EV car companies Tesla, NIO, etc have been driving -no pun for them expansive info display touch panels. It's largely able to consolidate and display more info in a customizable manner.

We are caught in a transformational stage, but the toddlers of the world who cannot drive presently, are almost set for only knowing of these expansive panels.

Whenever the RWD G42 comes out it, she may get the same display which the 3series mid life cycle refresh is getting next year.

As far as E cars go Tesla has mastered the infrastructure pretty well to get people bought in. I just can't get excited about a car that doesn't make noise.

I had the same opinion until I actually drove a Mach-E GT performance on Sunday. Its so fast that.... its just fun. Also, its got a fake noise feature that sounds OK for when you're accelerating. You can turn this on or off. The car was fun both ways.

The acceleration was soo fast that it literally made me dizzy/see "stars." Just stupid fast.

I recommend you go drive a performance EV if you haven't already. Might change your mind.

I'd like to see a PHEV version of the RWD G42. Ideally with ~400HP combined and ~100 mi. electric only range. If that's offered at LCI, I'll consider it.

i do think manufacturers are going to have to invest some cash into perfecting some realistic engine noise to feed those of us with hungry ears for feedback from EV speed. econo car buyers don't make much of a difference when converting them to EV however car enthusiasts are a different beast.

I definitely need to try some out. The model S was one I was looking at but price wise and other features missing makes me hold out for another couple years or car buying cycle for me. I do understand the acceleration is hard to top.

I've been strongly considering a Model 3 Performance vs G42 M240i. Go figure. I'd probably opt for the Tesla if it wasn't so boring inside and out but the driving experience is actually pretty good. The G42 is slightly cheaper so there's that. If a G42 i2 M40 or whatever nonsense was same price or less than M3P then I'd consider one but BMW hasn't gotten the BEV thing totally figured out yet.

What I'm really excited about is my Rivian R1S pre-order.

When I got my F22 M240i I figured it would be the last petrol engined car I would buy.

With no manual option on the G42, it not really looking better than the F22 and really not liking the digital dash, I'll stick with the F22 until the electric version comes out. And hope that the current design team is fired by then.

The no manual option really hurts. I'd pay $1-2k as an option to have the manual. As for the digital dash, doesn't the base 2-series still come with analog gauges? I think you could spec an M240 without premium pkg and then not add the Live Cockpit Pro, you could still get a very well-equipped car with analog gauges.

yes you're right it would make it another i version. i wonder sometimes if the G42 release was kind of caught in the wrong time to pair up with a EV release... such as, if the G42 was released instead in 2024, would it have a EV option. Except that would have been a extra long time to ask for the last gen 2series to be in the market.

I think a EV version of the 2series would sell.

i wouldn't have considered an E-M240i, as part of my justification for spending as much money as i am for a car i don't need, is to me.. this will be my last Gas powered car, and i think it has a chance to be a bit of a red barchetta for those who get the reference... although to be sure a Z4 M40i would be better for that

I like the idea of a BMW M240i or other 2-plus-2 or 2-seat electric sports car that is in the 40-60K range. And if the infrastructure were as robust and as prevalent as gas, I would definitely consider one. Unfortunately, that is not the case right now. Car manufacturers are making hideous looking SUV and crossovers and the infrastructure has a way to go to match the robust delivery and convenience of gas.

And please forget the huge digital, video game dashboards.

Someday yes but not right now, for the good of everyone, hopefully sooner than later.

That's exactly what I did when I ordered my M240i. Have analog gage dials on my 2019 330i xdrive and wanted them on the M240i.

As far as I can tell, it would have been the first legitimate sports coupe EV from a major manufacturer. Yes, I’d absolutely consider it.
