2011 335D "accidental" new front M-sport bumper... M-sport retrofit
So, my 335d was in a minor accident which needed the front bumper and the engine undertrays to be replaced (cracked / broken at fender), the body-shops system quoted part #51118049252 for my 2011 335D "Sport", the part actually references to a M-sport bumper even though he used my vin lol.
The problem is the bumper has already purchased & approved by the insurance and is on its way to his shop. So the question is What else would I need to complete a "sport" to OEM M-sport front bumper conversion? From what I could find, I will need at least, new lower grilles, new fog lights, new fog light supports, and the undertray adapter. (Source) Unconfirmed is if I would need the front wheel wells or anything else thats specific to M-sport models, or even the 335D in general. I see most people are doing either the "M3 replica" or "M-sport style" from ECS or others, probably would save alot of headache but with the insurance involved I dont want to screw anything up. Note 3 different people at ECS told me my stock lower grilles and fogs will work in the M-sport, even with my limited knowledge, I highly doubt it! Thanks! You need M sport lower grills and and foglights.
You can get the under tray attachment as well. The fender liners will work, you just need to drill new holes for the 8mm screws to pass through and bolt to the bumper. Do you have front parking sensors ? |

Lower grilles and fogs were a given, dont know what the ECS guys were talking about. So I basically order all the "bumper" smallparts, and everything else on the body stays the same with exception of the liner needing those holes drilled? Seems easy... too easy. |

I assume they are blank covers like for the tow hook cover? I’ll ask if the bumper has the cutouts or not, should be in next Monday. |

Gotcha, yea no worries. I’ll update with anything else I find out, and I’ll be sure to post a parts list for anyone wanting to do this in future.

If it has cutouts, you can use double sided tape to stock the covers on the bumper since there’s no washer to hold the covers in place.
I did that on my m3 bumper and it worked great. |

51118049252 is part number for M Sport without headlight cleaning option (option code S502A). For reference for others, 51118049257 is the part number for M Sport with headlight cleaning option. It's a nice gift from that mistake!! |

Oh wow, you’re getting all that?
All of that is unnecessary. The foglight supports should be plastic welded to the bumper. I forgot another difference, the foglight bulbs and connectors. Your oem bulbs won’t screw into the fog lights and your oem pigtails won’t clip into the bulbs for the m sport bulbs. I experienced this, literally today. |

Haha, well its my daily and I need it back ASAP, whatever I dont use wont be opened and will be safely returned back to the vendor.
To be honest thats the reason I'm over ordering, neither myself nor the bodyshop has laid eyes on what BMW is sending us so just for the sake of time I want to order everything. I was just about to look for that harness adaptor, 9006 female to H8/11 male right? I'll probably do some LEDs at the same time. |

I’m not sure what the bulb sizes are. I just cut and spliced oem m sport pigtails to the non m sport harness.
Here’s a link to the non m sport bumper bits. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_6966 The only thing missing is the deflector lips. Your fender liners should have their own deflector lips. I feel you’re overthinking the bumper conversion. But a free m sport bumper upgrade is great! You often see people post how they can squeeze an M sport bumper out of a body shop/insurance claim, you have it the other way around. |

Ha! Well I'm extremely thankful, I love the look of a stock M-sport, but trying to get a affordably priced 335D and have it be a M-sport, well, impossible lol.
I know most of it is stuff that will come off the old bumper, but as I mentioned I need this thing back ASAP and if it means me spending $20 on return shipping I'm fine with that! I really do hope it doesn't even need any of that stuff, but I'd rather have them on hand than leave it at the shop even longer lol. And thank you guys so much for the input, brand new to this platform and I really appreciate the advice. |

Hello!
Thought I would post my final update regarding the bumper, I didnt end up needing most of the parts as mentioned, really just the lower grilles and what was mentioned. To confirm, you need a H11 MALE to 9006 FEMALE adaptor for the fogs. My car is not perfect by any means, but I love the new bumper and happy to have it back again, thank you all for helping point me in the right direction. (About the only photo I have for it, took it real quick before heading to work immediately after.) |
