BMW Map Version
I've just checked the version of Maps on my iX3 and noticed that it's at 2020-4 which I thought was strange - I would have expected it to be on at least some version of 2021.
Does anyone else have the same version as me or a newer version perhaps? |

If you login on the BMW website you can download the BMW dowloadmanager, select the latest version and next you can update the car manually via an USB stick. Last edited by willows; 11-19-2021 at 06:12 AM.. |

Thanks, Everyone.
I completely forgot about the BMW Download Manager (despite using it several times on my old F30) I'm still surprised that the version installed is 12 months old though when the car was built in August of this year Downloading the update now... |

By the time got to putting in the USB stick a couple of days later mine had automatically updated GB and IE to 2021-3. I think the automatic download in the car does the local region, the USB download is the whole of Europe.

It's the same as used to be on the 225xe, if you drive into an area you haven't been before and there's an update it downloads and uses that. Never had to usb update the 225xe ever, and it was always pretty good.

Has anyone managed to update to the latest EU maps (version 2021-4)? For me it's a ~30GB update. But getting the file from Mac to FAT32 memory stick to IX3 is proving a challenge. File too big for FAT32 and car doesn't appear to even see an exFAT formatted stick or USB drive. Many thanks.

Is there any setting I can check to make sure this actually works? It would be awkward driving through Europe with “old maps” while I could have the most recent version but missed a setting…

You can check the map version in the NAV settings. I updated my maps via USB last week. As the VIN is now embodied into the download, it is simply a matter of plugging the USB in and waiting once UPDATE is selected.

My PP updated to the latest version over the air last week. Had a message on screen when I got in. Is this not what you are all talking about? (I can't look at the version right now as other half has taken car out).

If you use the BMWDownloadManager and apply the update to the car via USB, you will be applying an update for the whole of Europe - which you might never use. |

FAT32 is fine
FAT32 works a treat. Although the download is a single 30GB file the BMW download manager then extracts this (I missed this the first time I tried to do it) to your compatible usb stick - what it actually appears to do is extract a structure of smaller files to the usb stick that the car can read - none of which exceeds the single file size limit (4GB) of the FAT32 format. Once I’d worked this out it worked a treat on my 32GB FAT32 usb stick - also worth noting that actual usable space on my usb stick was much less than the advertised 32GB, can’t remember exactly, but it was only about 0.4GB larger than the map download.

Not having a 32GB stick at hand (actually I have one that says 32 but is actually 28.puuff), I tried to create a partition in an external drive but the BMW download manager doesn't recognise it. So I unzipped the file into this drive manually but the car doesn't recognise it...
so now, before buying a new stick, I'm trying to copy to my original 28gb the extracted files minus some language folders. This way it all fits. Question is whether the beemer will accept it. Keep you posted. |
