Question Body Side Molding?

So I was searching up some BMWs to test drive, and came upon this:

I can't tell if that's actually body side molding, or a fancy black sticker... I've searched around on 1addicts and it looks like BMW doesn't offer such an accessory for any of the 1 series. Assuming it's a stick-on, how would someone remove it without damaging the paint underneath?

You're all right, that 1 series is disgusting looking. I saw one of these up close and personal in convertible form yesterday at my gym. Really do not enjoy the aesthetics this car brings.

Other than that, you'd remove it carefully. I would imagine it's stick on so you'd need a heat gun and some time to slowly peel it back and buff off any remaining glue. If you do it caerfully, use plenty of heat, and take your time it should come off eaasily enough.

Alright, so today I went down to the dealer to see it. It really is body side molding, and it looks like it's really difficult to remove. It's made up of 3 pieces on either side, stretching from the front fenders to the rear fenders.

I have a heat gun, but would that endanger the paint in any way?

It could potentially, but depends on how hot your heat gun is. Is this your car? Or one you are considering buying? Who the hell put that on there in the first place?

Yeah, pretty ugly. For side moulding to be effective, you'd need to completely cover the whole sides of the car anyway. I hate parking by 4 door cars because those back doors gets you way up high while the front door gets you way down low.

This is one I am considering buying, and if I do, then off comes the side molds.

I test drove it today, and it's great, besides the exterior. Sadly the dealer will be shipping the car off to another state if it is not purchased within this weekend.
