VIN Number Today

Just saw that they have assigned a VIN number to my M40i. What should my expectations be for how long it will take from assigning the vin number to finish build. I’m excited!

Did they tell the week of the build? Call the toll-free BMWUSA number (800-831-1117) and you can check build status with either the VIN or production number. It is a computerized system so just follow the prompts...

For me it was 17 days from production begins/VIN number being assigned to car awaiting carrier assignment.

I got a ViN 16 days ago and it still says schedule for production.

Called Genius line. They say complete date around December 17th. That’s about five weeks after I placed a deposit.

Is that the same number as the genius line or totally separate? I wasn’t able to check the status via the automated prompts, it wants to connect you to a person but I’m on calls most of the day so I don’t have the time to wait on hold.

Hmm... been a while since I used it, maybe it's changed. I recall speaking my production number or last 7 of the VIN to computer which then gave an estimated completion date. Last used it for my X3 which I ordered in Aug of 2020.

There is an option for them to hold your place and call you back.

FYI - I broke down and called today and there were only 2 people ahead of me and I waited maybe 5 mins. My estimated completion date is 12/14 and went into prod on 12/2. Seems like production times may be trending back toward normal.

genius and online tracking are never accurate.
contact your sales agent at dealership. they have accurate status. trust me on this.

Yes, the online tracking is poor, I have found the phone system to be pretty accurate. But that is just my experience.
