Government crash tests show the Cooper performed well. I suspect the Clubman will as well. However, the reality is small cars are less safe than large. In reality small cars have a much better chance of avoiding the brunt of a crash than large ones.
Smaller > Large. This is a general statement though and certain cars are exceptions.
