Talking to the dealer about a 2022 M50i order and inquired about the 50th anniversary Motorsport badge rumored as option-able on M and M sport vehicles for the '22 model year.

Dealer didn't have a clue - seemed to be news to them all.

Just to front run chatter about an M50 with that badge (because two buddies already heckled me), check my profile. I'll be using it to tow my '08 m3 and '20 m2c to the track. Plus it's OEM and, if you don't like it, i don't care.

I think it's a cool throwback and a nice way to celebrate the half century milestone.

Thanks. That's the first article I've seen that lists model names for availability.

Seems strange that the models aren't all M inclusive - it says all M models produced after March 22. Means the badge isn't available on a '22 M5 or M8?

Also silly to offer it on an x3 m40i but not on an M50i when the article references the X5M so it's clearly available on the platform.

If this was an option for the m50i, I’d have easily done that. I want this. Shit, I want this everywhere. Steering wheel, self leveling center caps, trunk, hood, etc. This should just be the standard going forward. LOVE.

Honestly, I thought this was fake, like the carbon fiber ones you see on many questionably decorated rides.

I got a MY22 M50i and this wasn't even an option for me, my SA went through all available options. I'm in Canada though.

I thought the article says that this is a U.S. option only and available to order at the end of January 2022. That must be the reason your SA had no clues.

I would bet it is available for the M50i and wasn’t mentioned in the blog. They have done this many times before. If the X3M40i gets it the M50i certainly will get it. Then again BMW is good with press but not delivering options or parts with today’s manufacturing issues so it may be several months down the road until dealers even know or have the option to get this.

Now that we are in the range, has anyone been able to spec this option on their March build M50i?

Definitely available on the M50i I just ordered. I think the cost was $200. As much as I like it, the experienced salesperson warned that it may be pried off and stolen. Same way that Mercedes hood ornaments were often stolen years ago. Sad reason to avoid ordering it.

It's showing in the BMW Configurator (USA) as a $200 option on the X5 M50i or the X6 M50i. So, should definitely be orderable for anyone.

Great point. Someone may want to pry these. Still going back and for a bit, I also ordered these this week with a Mineral White 50i. May standout on white a little less than the tradition badge though. Really like the current badge, so honestly still debating.

Good point…I was initially feeling a little envy as the badges weren’t yet announced when I took delivery of my 2022 m50i…but considering the theft angle…I’m satisfied with the standard badging.
