Error Message

Auto lighting and wiping system malfunction message appeared last night. Wipers worked without issue as well as the headlights.
Ran the X5 number of times today the error message hasn't reappeared.
Any idea what would cause this error message to appear?

could be an issue related to the rain and light sensor in the rear-view mirror assembly

I haven't gotten this message myself, but it sounds like something may have been temporarily blocking visibility of the sensors in the rear-view mirror assembly or something faulty with it. Were you driving in heavy rain? Snow? Ice/snow building up directly behind the rear-view mirror assembly?

Raining and foggy when that message appeared.
Haven't seen it again since then.
