I am pretty sure the E92 M3 gets better mileage than the E46.

Does it really? It's heavier and it's got a bigger engine. I mean, the engine itself might be more efficient, but that doesn't mean the car itself will earn better mileage as a result.

The S5 doesn't surprise me. However, it'll receive the new TFSi V6 soon so those numbers should improve.

I remember Tiff from Fifth Gear mentioning that it does have fuel savings over the E46.

i think what seems to be missing from this discussion is the fact that most of us E9x M3 owners (and i'm sure S5 drivers can echo the same sentiment) don't really care about fuel economy. we bought the car knowing it's a hog. i average about 13.4 mpg in my M3 based on my driving style. personally, i never let fuel economy get in the way of a buying decision. i enjoy driving powerful cars and that's what matters to me. if i wanted something economical, i'd buy a hybrid

Enjoy them why they last.

In two years all the cars listed will be gone, or will have a lot smaller motors. Consumers no longer want small cars that get worse gas mileage than most SUVs.
