Question about saving shortcuts 1-7

Just started playing with this - it seems the shortcuts only take you to the 'top level menu' for instance, you can't save a shortcut for the Weather app in ConnectedDrive.

So I tried a shortcut for 'vehicle status'. No luck - can't drill down to that submenu.

The next thing I tried was to save a shortcut for the reverse camera - that didn't work either 'unable to save'.

Does this all make sense or do I just not know what I'm doing?

Set the shortcut on the screen right before your final or desired outcome. For example, if you wanted to display the sport gauges you would get an error of you opened the gauges then held 1. You need to go to the vehicle status, highlight the sport gauges option, then press and hold 1.

Wouldn't that be the P button on the center console?

Ah, got it. It there a way to activate the rear camera now in iDrive without putting the car in reverse? I don't remember seeing it to highlight and assign a hot button.

Amera is only triggered by selecting the reverse. Even activating the parking sensors does not activate the reverse camera.

For your info. Did you know that the camera disables when opening the trunk.

You can press the "P" button and the select the camera while not in reverse. That's how I know I'm far enough in my garage - I can see if the bumper cleared the back ledge in the garage.

Haven't tried to see if you can highlight the camera and then save the preset using the "p" button though.

Tried every combo but there's no way to assign a preset to the rear camera; but pressing the "P" park sensor button and then just selecting the camera definitely activates it. Use it daily like that.

On my car, the front sensors kick in automatically and activate the system in my garage when I get close to something or the end wall.

Same - I just have a small margin of error so I like to use the rear camera to make sure I don't scratch my bumper when I close the garage

I totally get that! There are times I leave it short of pulling in enough and have to get back in to pull it up. I'm tempted to paint some guide lines.

I might have to take a note from my dad's playbook and hang the old tennis ball from the ceiling!

I always reverse park, including in my garage, since the reverse cam has lines, i line em up with a certain spot in the garage. Perfect parking everytime.

But sometimes in public when i have to park head first, i cant park it straight 🤦*♂️.

or an old plug with a lead. Wrap the lead round a rafter and adjust the height until the dangling plug just touches the screen in front of your face when you drive in.

I would expect it to turn off. Otherwise, one would be staring at a picture of the sky since the camera is part of the trunk lid.
