Non Comps Being Sold as Comps

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but it appears that this car is not a competition model and has been up badged by the previous owner. They seem to have fooled Vroom.

The only way I was able to tell was by going into the 360 interior view and looking at the seatbelts. They do not have the M piping.

It appears to be a Comp. Midland Beige/Black Alcantara interior color is exclusive to the Comp Package.

The M seatbelts were a no cost option on the 2020 & 2021 non-LCI models. So if you're using that as a Comp or non-Comp reference point that may not help you unfortunately.

Ah that makes a lot of sense. I was thinking this person went through a lot of effort to make it look like a comp before selling it to Vroom. Thank you for clarifying.

Appears to be comp - gloss black exhaust tips, X3M Comp logo above the cup holders (Non-comp would say M), comp wheels but power coated black

My VIN comes up as a comp (when insuring it), and it’s not.

Dealers will always go by VIN to list features, and nothing else. There are simply too many cars and too many vehicle features out there to manually identify everything.

Note that there were a sizable batch of VINs on 2020 model years that were mislabeled. I don't know how BMW let that happen but they did.

I’ve definitely seen some obviously non comp models listed as comps on Vrooms site. This one stuck out to me cause I thought the seat belts were required with the package.

The telltale sign, as odd as it sounds, is usually the X3M Competition badge on the center console. That will immediately identify a '20 model year that has a messed up VIN, but it will also identify most of the fakes that may be out there as people usually don't bother swapping this badge.

My '20 non-comp is one of those with a messed up VIN. I knew it wasn't a comp when I was browsing it online and during conversation with the dealer over email they made it a point to make sure I knew it was non-comp, which I thought was good of them.

Some BMW paperwork has it listed as a comp (like on dealer repair orders) and other paperwork shows it as a non-comp. Very odd but seems to be "normal".

Does a screwup like that impact anything like insurance premiums or is that to one's advantage?

My insurance says comp and it's not a company. Price was exactly the same for both vehicles so I left it alone
