Anyone measured the dB (decibels) in an iX interior?
Has anyone measured the dB (decibels) in an iX?.
Everyone says it's super quiet but what does that translate to numbers? |

Here is a screenshot of the table with results for winter driving. Third on that list of EVs ordered by average decibel level. Pretty good. |

Interesting. I've recorded a couple of drives in my e-tron running on 21" wheels , all season tyres, summer conditions and mostly dry roads and the average is 65.04dB.

Is it updated all the time? Or where can we find the latest version? |

I'm going to try to remember to take a decibel reading in our current car on the way tomorrow for our second iX test drive and then another reading then while by wife is having a go. I've not really been in electric cars aside from Uber Priuses so I hadn't experienced how quiet a car could be until my first iX test drive. The salesman took the car for a spin before we switched and I had a drive and the quietness was really quite shocking. I started to get a bit of motion sickness while in the passenger seat (I sometimes get motion sickness in the back of cars but not in the front passenger seat). It just felt so unreal.

I measured 64db in my X5 50i using my watch @100kmh on reasonably smooth bitumen. The same stretch of road in my iX40 at the same speed measured 58db.

I’ll post a video soon of a cabin noise comparison I did between the iX and my e-tron :-)

I borrowed one from my dealer recently. It might be reasonably quite when just rolling at a constant speed but under hard acceleration there was a horrendous whine from the motors. Regarded it much noisier than my m440ix which is astonishing

You can simply turn off the iconic sounds if it is not to your liking. If you watch the video here that LittleJoe posted above, you'll see that the first couple were perfectly silent and then he did some with the sound turned on. |

Something to note is that the iX motor is very well isolated from the main chassis in terms of sound and vibration. I saw a video showing the motor mounts and they are quite massive. BMW did a great job here versus the competition. I hate the sound of the motor whine in the Tesla 3/Y. It sounds like a high pitched banshee.

I didn't experience it in the model 3 I test drove not the one I rented on Turo for a day, but I have heard that some people have it on the 3 as well. And this is a situation where having a dealer as a middle man can be useful.... You can convince the dealer that it is an issue for you and then even if the manufacturer says it is within spec, which is what Tesla does, they can at least try to help remedy it for you to keep you happy and make you a return customer. Although I don't think they could do much to keep the motor from creating the whine, Tesla would need to redesign the motor for that, they could add some sound proofing material that would prevent it from being audible inside the cabin. |

I think I'm in the minority in that I like the whine from the tesla motors when I put my foot down, it's like a space ship. Maybe it's because I can't hear much of it from all the wind noise through its leaky windshield though. 🤣

In the video below, it is very noticeable at just past 11 seconds (and of course again on each other acceleration he did). That's what I was talking about. You may need to turn your sound up high depending on your speakers/headset. I don't think you will find that sound pleasant. |
