vinyl wrap interior

I'm getting tired of the walnut trim in my E93 and was thinking of attempting to wrap it. Does anyone know if there is a product that has some depth to it? Kinda like the one they used on is models or the hexagon that was used in the F15 series?

3M DI-NOC architectural finishes. You’ll pay out the ass but they’re some of the nicest vinyl products out there.

I'm not sure you'll get the 'depth' effect from a vinyl wrap, even 3M DI-NOC, but I can say that it's easy to work with and looks GREAT when done. I did all the walnut trim in my and my wife's e90s with the 3M carbon fiber vinyl wrap, and absolutely love it. Just get a Harbor Freight heat gun, clean thoroughly first, and take your time.

Wish you had a sedan so I could trade you your wood trim for my plastic trim

I did my fake wood trim in the 3m Di-Noc carbon fiber vinyl. It's really not all that expensive...you can find rolls on ebay. I think it cost me $35-$40 for enough to do my trim.

Fake wood trim? Was it not original BMW trim? If so, believe it or not, it’s all real wood. Yes it looks fake haha, but it’s real…

You can look on eBay for a used interior aluminum kit if that’s more your speed. It’s a bit pricier than vinyl but would still give you the OEM look.

It'd be nice if you could matte out the high gloss wood trim so that it looks muted like modern bmw's.

Vinyl wrapped my wife's E91 trim gloss black. I have the same look on my F30, I think it Takes 10 years off the look of the dash.
It was my first time wrapping anything.

I just used Vivid gloss back from Amazon

I suggest staying with the 3M vinyl. I used the 3M 1080 matte carbon fiber on my X5 and it worked great, it stayed stuck and didn't bubble. I even used it in some difficult places like around the steering wheel buttons and 3 years later it is still almost perfect even after summers parked outside in the Phoenix, AZ heat...

I have "VViVid Vinyl" silver carbon fiber on my e90 and it just isn't as easy to work with and isn't as forgiving. I would have used the 1080/2080(newer version) but they didn't have silver.

I thought that the VViVid product would be fine but it just isn't as good. It might be fine for flat areas but when wrapping the "points" of the pieces it just doesn't stretch and stick as well and would shrink back more in some points. I also felt that the 1080 was better on things like the edges of vents. I have had areas lift up that I had to re-heat and stretch after the initial install which never happened with the 1080. I even used adhesion promoter after the IPA cleaning on the VViVid product which I didn't do with the 3M 1080 and still got much better results with the 1080!

I have heard that the Dinoc is thicker and harder to work with than the 2080.
I should have bought the Dinoc and given it a try and may end up redoing it all in a year or so.

My opinion is that it looks much much better than the original wood trim on my e70! I was also able to sand down some cracked pieces and cover them with vinyl which hid small cracks almost perfectly and 90% of the larger ones.

This was before my 10" android screen install.

I think the vinyl also looks better than the brushed aluminum on the e90 mainly because the aluminum trim dents and dings easily where the vinyl doesn't.

Does the 1080 go on dry? And did you need any special tools etc that they bundle with that 3m 1080?

It goes on dry. I bought it with a plastic applicator with a felt edge. You just need an exacto knife and a heat gun. You could probably use a hair dryer but a heat gun with temp control is best. It takes a little practice but isn't that bad. There are youtube videos to show you how to do it.

If you are brave enough to try, you could spray it with matte acrylic spray. Now I wish I hadn't thrown away the broken dash trim piece I had from my 128i - I could have given it a shot for science to see how it would come out. I have tons of clear matte spray for my other expensive hobby,

I really liked the light matte wood trim in one of my Saab 9-5 wagons. Very Scandinavian. But even the "light" walnut in my 328i is quite dark. the light popar in my 128i works nicely with the Savannah beige leather.

Here's some pictures of a few interiors I've vinyl wrapped before. I've done a 7D carbon fiber wrap before, it surprisingly looks super realistic. And I've also done a chameleon carbon vinyl wrap which is my personal favorite.

Bored and looking to do my interior trim on my white E93. I have the Dakota brown leather.. Looking for some input and pics on wrap color/style choices. Thinking the matte, satin, or gloss black is the safest way to go against the leather. The gloss (piano) black seems to be the thing on newer high end bmw. Just not sure if it would be overkill on the large center console.
