Update on ACC

A friend of mine just ordered the 240 as well. Seems like the dealer system cannot add the ACC now. They add it and the system would take it out when completing the order.

I can confirm that you cannot add the ACC, even with the dealer system. I ordered my car on 1/20 and my dealer was unable to add it on.

also, does your friend have a build date? my allocation was scheduled for week 6 but I recently saw that it was reverted back to 111 status (order received). my dealer told me that there might be a vital parts shortage but he has no concrete answer yet.

Didn't check date. But when we placed order its scheduled for production. Existing allocation with the dealer

did you have the parking assistance package on it? that's probably the only thing I can thing of as I added literally everything I could to my build and that most likely uses the most "chips"? I am just extremely bummed that my dealer and I have no information on why my build was delayed when I could have been driving my brand new M240i along the coast of California by March.

I also just got back from the dealership and the 5DF code no longer exists in the dealership back end. So I guess we just have to live without.

I'm almost considering a 330 since I could get all options (ACC + Driving assistance pro, lumbar support, power tailgate) with M sport for less money

I don't understand why you can get ACC on another model but not the M240i. their reason is a "chip shortage" but they are including it into other models, so there is really no shortage especially when all the press cars have it. I just don't get it. If I am paying over 60k (final price) for this car I am expecting everything, you know? it's just stupid how BMW is doing this IMO.

It is. And it is really frustrating.

What I've been told by my dealership is that BMW is trying to transition towards people ordering their cars instead of picking one out at a dealership. Meaning, eventually every dealership will have 1 of every kind to see and test drive, but then you need to build it to buy it.

This allows BMW to understand how many cars and what kind of cars are in demand and ensure they have enough supply for it. It also means (unfortunately), bmw could potentially drive you towards purchasing a type of car that they would rather you buy. Which in my case could be a 330i.

It's smart and revolutionary. As a business it makes sense. But it is unfortunate for early adopters like you and me.

I guess they are trying to sell more expensive cars... If they gonna save chips it gotta be the entry level 2 series. I know 240 is not really entry level But still a 2er

You aren't getting ACC or Driving Assistance Pro (nor the parking assist) on a new 330i. Those were removed quite some time ago

The build configurator isn't gospel. Here's what shows in the dealer ordering system:

Check it out at the build configurator.
It says right at the top of the configurator page:

“This is a configurator. Industry-wide supply issues impacting automotive manufacturing around the world may cause delays or non-availability of certain components, features and models. Please see your dealer for additional information about your chosen BMW.”
