Thinking about going from an E90 328 to a F30 340
I brought my E90 3 years ago ( I was 20 and this was my first car/huge purchase) when it had 67k miles on it from the first owner. Sitting at close to 77k miles right now.
I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on an F30 340 since from what I've been reading, the B58 is pretty much bulletproof (except for the normal BMW oil leaks). Just like the N52. I kind of want to get into something new. Nothing wrong with my current car. But it's 13 years old. So, coolant systems going to start going out, suspension components are going to start going out etc. I know I've been looking at different cars for a while and I've listed and unlisted my car here once before. Well, it's back up ![]() I haven't driven one yet since I am out of town and won't be in town until March 1st. I've got a few 340s on the list that I want to take a look at. My main thing is, will I regret selling my E90 for the 340? Obviously, there's going to be a huge difference in technology compared to the E90. and power. From what I've been reading, steering feel is much more "soft" and not so sporty compared to the E90. Interior material also lack? A lot of plastic used?? Just want to hear things from current 340 owners. Any help/insight would be appreciated. |

The engine will make up for anything you think may be a step backward. Steering you can "adjust" in the EcoPro/Comfort/Sport settings. I doubt you'll find the material quality on the interior inferior to your E90. My wife drives an E90 and I've sold BMWs since the 2002 was a model and not just a year, so I'm pretty familiar with subsequent models. The only drawback for you will be the price of a late-model used car in this market and (for me) the rarity of that model with a manual transmission.

I'm leaning more towards CPO since 1 there's warranty, 2 special financing and 3. You get rebates. I know there's 0.9% for 36 months (what I'll most likely do). $500 rebate for current BMW owners. 2.99% for 60 I believe.

Also, this is going to be the first time I'm financing a car. Even though it's a short term, I don't know how I'll feel about having a consistent car payment for 3 years.

Drove a 340i manual with all the M Performance parts thrown at it including LSD and suspension.
Still wasn't as exciting as a sorted E90. Interior quality also not as good. What year and variant is your E90? There's not a huge step up in terms of tech if your car is an LCI and is loaded. Adaptive lights, NBT, harman kardon, ACC, rear camera - all factory available or retrofittable on the E90. That said, having a CPO warranty and a newer car sure are good things. |

I think the E90 is much more of a BMW than the F30. It's not just the steering, it's a lot of things. If I had to do it again I would have held out for a clean 2013 E92 instead of buying the 2016 F30 that I have now. I had an E90 328i at one point, ended up replacing it with the F30. BMW missed the mark with the F30 IMO.

I drove a 320 back in 2019. Drove like ass. But it had no options. Not even powered seats

That's the main reason why I want a F30. Kinda want a newer car with more things. My car runs and drives good. No issues so

If you don't have issues with your E90 and you're happy with it thus far, I'd seriously consider keeping it and modding it. Going from a well equipped E90 to a comparably equipped F30 is a downgrade in my opinion, but go drive one and do what you think is best.

If I like it, I'll proceed with selling mine. If not, I'll keep mine. Already got a buyer for my E90

I am not even a fan of the F30 and will go ahead and say it will be a step up in every way.. the torque of the B58 w the ZF8 auto tranny is just on another level.

If you are willing to look north of the border, you can get a much more optioned car with lower mileage for less.
I payed 2k less for a 13000km M performance edition version. It comes with an individual colour and full individual interior with leather dash etc. Only Auto though.
