Only found previous 2020 Spartanburg shutdown. Articles relating to this one keep mentioning BMW has not announced which plants it plans to idle or shutdown yet. Not much out yet, guess I'll keep and eye out

From another thread just started

BMW Pauses Production https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1903362

Seems it will impact M3/4 production and we don't know for how long.

The Munich plant is affected where the M3/M4 are built.

Didn't the Ukraine conflict start like 5 days ago? Are they running that low of a inventory that they have to stop production?

I'm surprised they don't have weeks worth of this stuff on hand

Thanks to Lean manufacturing process followed by almost every other OEM. Manufacturers inventory lasts for days and any major disruption to the supply chain affects production.

Knowing the demand they currently have, I would expect they'd stock up on the available things, just in case. Running lean doesn't really help anyone.

Moreover, I feel absolutely horrible for the families in Ukraine. Heart goes out to them, such a horrible situation over there.

Do a little reading on "Just in time"... The number of trucks arriving on site with the needed parts/materials for just the next couple of hours is mind bending - There's no way they "Stock up".

Current process have been evolved over decades and its impossible to have any quick reaction to market needs. Most OEMs and Tier 1s dont have the resources or infrastructure to make any drastic change within a short timeframe. People are learning from the current issues and it might take years to bring in any change.

I hope the situation settles down soon.

I'm week 10 got pushed to 18, seems like week 10/11 got pushed but noone else did so far. It's weird they didn't shift all of them rather move this week to a later time unless they forecast each week when it is officially past their production time. I went 111 to 112 then 112 to 150 for a couple of hours then back to 111 Order Received...

Yeah, mine just went back to 111 from 112 today.

Hey, no one’s shooting at me or raiding my home so I think I’m ok with it.
