Has anyone successfully increased VMAX during the first 10 engine hours?
I've heard rumblings that this is possible, but am curious to know if anyone has done this in practice in the G80 / G82?
I'd like to increase my speed limiter from 155 mph (250 kph) to 180 mph (290 kph). I'm hoping to sort this out before I take delivery in the summer. Thoughts to head off at the pass: 1. Yeah, I know - the M Driver's Package does that. But it's $2,500 here in Canada and does NOT include a track day. Kinda steep.Anyone with first hand experience? |

Ah yes, but it only works if you perform the sequence right after the massive HP/TQ increase that occurs after the first service
In all seriousness, that sounds like nonsense. I can't imagine that BMW would implement a back door that allows for customers to bypass paying to get features. That's really not compatible with their business model of extracting as much money from us as possible I'm a software engineer by trade ( although, I admittedly don't work in the automotive space ) and I just can't imagine why someone would design or request such a mechanism; It's illogical. Who knows for sure I guess, I suppose it's possible. But, I really doubt it.

... but this old, inconclusive thread that I've only hastily skimmed implies that it might be so:

Quote:
1 - cannot simply be done alone. 2 - could be coded within the first 10 hours of vehicle use 3 - can be done in conjunction with a tune. I think it's foolish for BMW to not have a means of upgrading after delivery. |

That's why I just went ahead and ordered the M Drivers Package. Yes, we get a track day. Will I ever have time to actually use it, probably not.
But it's $2,500, you spend it once, and forget about it. I haven't once lost sleep over spending the money. I haven't been to 180, yet. I have, however, been to 167. It still pulls like a freight train, all the way up top.
