Finally got one….
Went to the local dealer for a test drive. Decided to take this one home. Going for ceramic and tint this week. Happy motoring. Cheers!

Congrats! Your profile shows you have a Cayman S. Did you trade or are you keeping the Porsche? I'd be curious to hear your comparison between the two.

of the G42 M240 this weekend. Just over 200 miles on the odo now so have not stretched her legs yet (following break-in first 1000 miles or so). Can't wait to give her the beans. She's gonna be a beast. I can just feel it. Excellent car. My M240 is essentially base. Only options are Digital Cockpit Pro and Universal Carhole Opener. Very well optioned standard equipment for price point and base with only 2 boxes ticked. Plan is to trade this in for a G87 M2 Comp at the end of year or whenever it is delivered. I am first in line for a custom build at my local BMW Dealer. Can't wait to drive that beast. I will prolly tick a bunch of boxes for the M2 (CF buckets and Ceramic brakes - yes please!) Let me first tell you about my 6-speed manny 987.1 2008 Cayman S: it has 36k miles on it. Mods include OEM short shifter kit, Fabspeed race exhaust and sport headers, GT3 throttle body and plenum, de-snorked (removal of protector on intake side apparently put there to avoid cigarettes or anything else from being sucked into intake), ECU tune, air intake upgrade, OEM sports steering wheel upgrade(thicker rim/smaller diameter). Not sure what the HP is at now but stock was rated at 295. I believe the mods would put about 50-60 HP but have not confirmed with a dyno pull. This may be conservative considering what I've read on the mods independently. Definitely pulls much better than stock though. Butt dyno testing only. It's quick. But not as quick. Acceleration/Handling: The M240 is faster. Much faster. (Thinking it may be underrated on HP and I've heard BMW tends to do this to be conservative on ratings). And it's much smoother. Not too surprising considering it's a brand new car and 14 years newer with all the new tech. The ZF trans doesn't hurt either. I can't shift that fast! The rear biased AWD isn't as easy to throttle steer as in the mid-engine RWD Cayman but it handles very well. The AWD really puts the power down well. Steering in the M240 is a little numb comparatively (hydraulic vs electric). I can really 'feel' what the Cayman is doing underneath me more so than the M240. But this is the way tech is going. Even new P-Cars have lost a bit of steering feel IMO. Brakes: Cayman wins hands down. Better brakes + about 800 lbs less. Wonder if the tire/cooling package would have bigger brake kit. Read on here that may be the case. It wouldn't hurt in the braking department for sure. But they are good enough for backroad street driving. However, I've only put 200 miles on the odo so far so brakes are still being broken in until 500 miles or so. Should improve with more driving. At least I hope. Sound: Cayman is loud with mods. Has drone 2200-2800 RPM. I don't hang out there. Race through it and keep the revs high (it's a P-Car for hells sake! Drive and shift like you mean it) Sounded like a vacuum from the factory to me. But now it's glorious. Maybe too loud. My neighbors prolly don't like it. M240 sounds good but a little artificial with piped in sound. A new aftermarket exhaust would be nice. Don't like the exhaust 'tips'. But on I go…. Interior/Tech: M240 no question. My Cayman has no tech really. The Bose sounds a little better (didn't get HK system). But I rarely listen to the radio in the Cayman. Has heated seats. Base seats in the Cayman are more comfortable on longer drives but the base seats in the M240 are ok. Feel like I'm sitting on them not in them. Wish I had the leather sports upgrades with lumbar and higher/adjustable bolsters but whatever. Love the sunroof. Cayman roof too small to incorporate a sunroof. But there's the Boxster if one so desires to have that open feel in the mid-engine RWD P-Car. Cabin space/Interior feel: M240 wins on space. 4 seats vs 2 seats. However Cayman has a frunk and a trunk. So it's close in storage space. Cayman is a sports car. M240 is a sports sedan. This is apparent immediately when you plop down in the Cayman. It feels molded to you. Like a cockpit. Sits much lower. M240 more sedan like. But that's it's styling. NBD. Exterior: I love my Cayman. Sleek, curves. 3/4 angle to die for. Classic. But the M240 looks good. Nice angles. Rear lights stick out a bit but I'm digging it. Looks like they are upside down. Looks so much better in the flesh. Happy the front end is typical BMW kidney grills. Not the Beaver Tooth looks on others. However those are starting to grow on me now. Saw a few on the lot and in the showroom. Much better looking in the flesh. Kinda like a new song/album you hear for the first time from your favorite artist. First time no like. Second time. Getting better. Third time. Love it. Something like that. That's all for now. Happy motoring. Cheers! |

Got about 400 miles on her now. Impresses me more and more each day. MPG on this little beast is great (30 mpg or so). Been playing in comfort/sport/sport+ trying to stay below 4500 RPMs. Eco is rather impressive if just tooling going 80 mph on highway. This is a great DD and she's gonna be hard to give up for the M2. But I'll deal with that 'problem' when the M2 is released. Really want the M2 Comp with ZF 8-speed auto and xDrive like on the M3 Comp (AWD/ AWD sport/RWD option). But I would be happy just keeping the M240. It's like 4 cars in one. Waiting patiently til 1000 miles to push her…I'll provide updates as I get there.
