Feeling Every Bump - 440i Handling Question

Hi all - I'm new to this but I got a used 2019 440i - and I'm feeling every bump in the road pretty harshly, like on uneven freeway overpasses you bounce on the bumps. I've never driven a car this low before so it may just be the nature or sportiness of the car, nothing feels like its wrong. And it drives great when the road is smooth...

My tires are 225/45 r18 at 35 psi, does that sound ok? Just wanted to check with you all on here before I make it bigger in my head than it actually is...
Thanks!

Got it. Does your car have regular or M Adaptive (aka EDC) suspension?

run flats are heavy and have a stiff sidewall = harshness and bent wheels

I think regular - nothing on the original sticker mentioning adaptive M suspension..

I’ve had similar experience with used 2019 440i m-sport suspension. I think the rear was too harsh - looks like on every bump rear was loosing traction and made car unstable on highway and tooth-crashing on the pot-holes. She had only 15k and no accidents. I finally gave up and replaced dumpers for Bilstein b6 - this made it brand new car. I kept original sport-springs. It slightly increased body roll but she becomes so much more controllable.
Do you have original sticker? Does it show S704A M Sports suspension?

jondbca thanks for all the details.

Quick recap: regular suspension, 33K miles (too new for leaking shocks), no accidents, run flat tires.

What's the condition of the P7 run flat tires? As run flat tires accumulate miles, the loss of tread will lead to noticeably stiffer / jarring ride. My vehicle at 39K miles is on the 2nd set of Pirelli P Zero run flat tires. OEM P Zero tires lasted 22K miles. I "accept" run flat tires for the convenience factor, while acknowledging two instances of "almost bought" Michelin PS4S tires.

Few thoughts:

- Non run flat tires will help make the ride less jarring. Buy a mobility kit for unexpected encounters with nails on the road surface

- This might be also a case of unmet expectations. 440i - especially M Sport - suspension is tuned for performance vs comfort

- How would you define suspension behavior goals?

- What is your budget to improve suspension behavior which would match your goals?

Thanks! I had never even heard of run flat tires before this thread, they are about due to be replaced anyway, so like you mentioned it should be a cause.. I was just looking at getting new tires - good to hear of the difference. I think I'll explore the non-run flats with the mobility kit. Then look at extra steps if necessary - but knowing this makes me feel a lot better...

If you can get lighter wheels, that helps a ton as well. BMW stock wheels tend to be heavy and soft...less unsprung weight, the better

I think you'll find its just the car characteristic. I find all F3x series cars are not great for handling bump and uneven roads. Even in SE trim you can feel every single road undulation, bump, etc while in most other cars you wouldnt even notice.

Just outside my estate theres a little cut in the road and my f30 feels like it hit massive pothole just going over it. while in my wifes car you dont even notice its there

Thanks! Will take this into consideration - so lighter than the CINTURATO P7 in terms of the weight of the tire itself?

I am also a new owner of a 440i, but the 2017 model year. I am coming from a 2016 WRX. I am used to feeling bumps, but it is considerably less than the WRX in comfort mode. Sport mode, more so. I will typically only use sport when I know I am on a decent surface.

I found that my rear suspension is leaking at 42k miles. Who knows how long it has been doing that. Will be replacing with B16s Damptronic once supplies are available. July 29 ship date!

UPDATE - I replaced my runflat tires with non runflats (Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate) - and the car drives like a dream now - 200% better... Handling, cornering, it's like a whole new car now that I got rid of those... Thanks all for the info on runflats.
