G82 with a Lightweight Front Splitter installed

I don't believe I've seen too many G8X's with the Lightweight Front Lip, so here is mine, installed today at EAS!

I decided to go with the Lightweight due to the cost of replacement, durability, and corner clearance for my steep driveway. I previously had an F80 M3 CS that constantly scrapped the corners going up my driveway. I've also had to replace it due to going off the road on the track, so hopefully off-track excursions will be less painful!

It's not as flashy and fancy as most other aftermarket front lips, but I like it's clean, subtle design that still provides some aero advantages, that hopefully works well to increase airflow efficiency under the car. As with most proper front lips, the undercarriage factory spoiler under the factory front lip is removed to facilitate installation, and decrease airflow resistance.

Thanks! I stopped tinting my cars years ago, I prefer letting the light in!

Lightweight Performance is based in Germany, but I got mine from European Auto Source.

Here's a shot of the underside if the Lightweight lip, only slight trimming of the rubber seal is needed - no drilling or cutting.

Should also work with most oil cooler guards as well, we'll start test-fitting as soon as we get the Turner units in stock.

Looks good! I have zero CF on my car so I'm thinking of maybe going with something like this instead of going down the rabbit hole of a CF front lip, then inlets and diffuser etc.

Looks good. It's a pain you have to take all the panels off and cut the seal though.

Lightweight uses these on their track vehicles, design was inspired from the E92 M3 CRT.

The ABS plastic construction is nearly indestructible. Here's a video of installation, definitely DIY:

I've been searching, but haven't found any REAL data. However, if their mission statement is to believed, it should have at least some benefit since they are primarily catering to a track oriented consumer, and not a lifestyle type of brand that only goes for aesthetics:

LIGHTWEIGHT has stood for innovative technology and precise craftsmanship at the highest level since 2010.

In order to survive in a highly competitive market, constancy, customer satisfaction and the quality of our own products must have absolute priority and priority. This requires real visions, good ideas as well as technical and manual skills - and, and that is important: a good dose of perseverance and perseverance. Not all of our ideas always prevail. The results of the developments are not always satisfactory and can thus be passed on to the customer.

But we vouch for that: All of our products are tested extensively on the race track and in everyday operation without any ifs or buts before they are released for sale and are approved by the TÜV. The know-how in the development and production of your own components enables individuality at the highest level.

Because dealing with high-tech products requires the greatest care and expertise.

Independent test reports in the trade press repeatedly confirm that BMW vehicles optimized with LIGHTWEIGHT products achieve significantly better results than their series counterparts or comparable vehicles from competitors.

I've reached out to them to provide more insight as I too am curious!

Question

From the installation video, it seems rubber spacers angle the front edge of the splitter downward, and it leaves an opening, while the trailing edge is buttoned-up tight to the bumper cover. If that's the case, what happens to leaves and other debris that find their way into that opening?

I already have crap pressed-up against the lower edge of my front radiator that's almost impossible to access. I'm just wondering if this is another opportunity for more debris to pile-up ?

Thanks for any insight as I am seriously considering this mod.

I contacted Lightweight and here was their response:

Quote:
For this specific part we have not measured how much more downforce we gain but from the previous models we have the lip (M2C, M2, F20, F30, E82 1 M Coupé) we have a positiv effect on the downforce on the front. It would be wrong if we would say it has been only designed to gain more downforce but having the datas from the previous models we can say it helps with a few kilo exponential when at a higher speed above 200 km/h (the range where aerodynamic helps to gain more downforce.
I hope this information is helpful and is answering your question(s).
So basically it's useful at above 124 mph based on their applications with past models.

Spacers are required for the bottom lip as the mounting surfaces below the bumper are not completely flat. The lip will be level when finished installing.
