At least she looks good on a flatbed?
I think I saw another post regarding rocks getting stuck in the brake assembly.. I joined the club on Sunday!
I've had rocks stuck on rotors/ heat shields before, but this sound was something else! I parked it Saturday evening without any issues, but when I started driving home Sunday, the world's worst metal grinding noise popped up. It seriously could've woken up an entire neighborhood.. should've grabbed a video. Pulled into a gas station (with all eyes on my screeching brand new car), pulled the wheel off and couldn't identify or dislodge any rocks. Had ~140 miles to drive home and didn't want to chance the issue getting worse. BMW roadside covered a tow, and service center confirmed it was just a rock stuck between dust/heat shield and the rotor itself. When I pick the car up I'll ask if they have any tips for dislodging this without being stranded next time.. such a minor issue for a tow to be needed. Just wanted to post incase anyone else gets the screech of death, hopefully it's not THAT common on these cars. |

Had the same thing happen. I knew this was a problem on several models as I'd seen it before as a bmw service manager. I was able to pull to the side and use my fingers through the wheel to push the dust shield back enough to clear the rock.

She does look good on the flatbed. It seems this can happen to any brand, any car. Do you carry a jack with you or was it the gas station that removed your tire to inspect???

I also tried pushing on the back plate in any place I could get my hands on it, all I ended up with was dirty hands! My buddy's M2C kept getting rocks between caliper and wheel barrel, I guess this is a better place to get stuck.

My buddy had a jack and tools with him thankfully. A couple bystanders came by to laugh that the car didn't have a jack or spare from factory though! Sunday afternoons in a small town are tough times to find shop space.

In many cases, just driving backwards will just pop the rock out or losen it enough you can get it out manually.

I'd seen thay a couple of times on some M cars. It sucks! The rock I had must have been close to the outside edge and I was able to manipulate it just enough. When I have the car in for service, I'll have my tech pull the wheels and slightly bend back all four dust shields.

Luckily it wasn't stuck between the caliper and the wheel, where the M2 usually has these stuck. That will take off a nice chunk of the inner wheel well

My buddy who had an M2C was convinced this would be my issue too. Feeling lucky, just hoping this isn't a chronic issue for G42s as well!

Not that this would guarantee a road side fix, but getting the wheel off gives a much great chance to remove the rock without having to pull the rotor and need a tow.
I don't have my M240 yet, but I already have a jack waiting for a trunk to place it in. https://modernspare.com/product/2013...-accessory-kit |
